Back to back 4-0s in Europe eh, madness. The players will be loving this European venture, especially Jota it seems.

Surely we will give Podence a start next week in the return leg and give a few others from the bench a game as well. Perfect opportunity.

Excited thinking about the draw already and on our day we can beat any of them, feels like our side is designed for euro competition.

I think the reason it wasn't a red card was because both players were literally head to head and their player just pushed Jota away with his head. If it had been a head butt, then I'm sure he'd been off for an early bath.

Enjoyed the game last night and felt we were the better side pretty much throughout. Only glaring error was Patricio's comedy gold moment when he almost gifted them the away goal they worked so hard for. WTF he was thinking I have no idea but thank God he redeemed himself in time to stop it going in.
I thought the head 'butt' incident should have been a red but I'm glad it wasn't as the headline would have been "Wolves beat 10 man Espanyol 4-0".
Otherwise I thought that Espanyol did very well with a largely reserve side, let's hope they continue to concentrate on league survival and field the same side again next week.

That's twice in two games that Jimenez has put Rui under pressure unnecessarily, Im pretty sure that he could have handled the one last night though, that couldn't have been construed as a back pass, but I guess he didnt want to take the risk.

Not sure Nuno will make many changes for the return leg. However, he might go with a 3-5-2 formation and be more defensive minded.

posted on 21/2/20

I'm fairly sure that is exactly what he will do. His primary aim will be to keep a clean sheet and secondly try to pick up the odd away goal.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Jimenez on the bench with Jota and Traore starting up front and Podence and Neto putting in an appearance at some point.

I've been saying that all season, we cannot rely on Jimmy all the time.
Jota's return of three prem goals is pathetic, I think his days are numbered.

I didn't say we should get rid.
His days of being first choice I intimated.
Shall we wait till the end of the season before we start saying nasty things to each other.
Incidentally, I still think 3 Prem goals so far is pathetic.

despite the i told you so comments boston is correct - 3 from 26 is not good enough for a main striker.

posted on 21/2/20

It isn't. He isn't a 'main striker' though. He is a wide forward.

Its widely accepted he has been under par in the league at times this season. It isn't some new revelation.

posted on 21/2/20

Also, I'm not sure it's a 'I told you so'. If you make statements like 'I think his days are numbered', you have to expect people to have a joke when that player goes and scores a hat trick the next game. That is part of being on a forum.

You can either laugh it off or get overly defensive. If you get overly defensive in that situation, then it's probably best to refrain from making bold statements.

i think you're playing with words, striker or forward is the same thing to me - he is a main striker, not a winger, second to raul of course.

posted on 21/2/20

be good if you are arguing with me to stick to what i have said and i've not said his days are numbered.

I have never said that you had said that. It would be good when discussing with me if you could remember that your original post was about what Boston had said.

Not playing with words. He plays on the left. Adama plays on the right. Only one gets called a 'main striker'.

Jota's decision making could have been better this year and he should have scored more. He hasn't played as a main striker though.

would secondary forward suit you as a description ?

posted on 21/2/20

If we play in a 3-5-2.

posted on 21/2/20

Inside forward is probably more applicable than anything else when he plays on the left of a three.

Guys it's all feckin' semantics. Whatever lable you want to put on Jota he is put on the field for two primary reasons,
1. to score goals
2. to provide assists for goals

I think we are all agreed that his goals and assists in the league for this season are not good enough and I'm sure if you could ask Jota he would agree.
However only a fool would dismiss him as not good enough when we have all seen how good he can be when he's fully up to speed.
For me Jota is one of those players who goes through phases. He will have a lean spell followed by a purple patch and I have no doubt that he is second only to Jimenez in ability to score goals and provide assists when he is at his best.

So inside forward? Or do you see him more as a raumdeuter?

Wolfgang is one of those. They take up 2 seats on a plane don't though?
