Player ratings vs. Man City

Chilwells value continues to reduce at over a million pounds a game,at this rate soon be worth about same as Gray, two players similar in lack of progression during recent months.

I thought both Ian and Barnes did well, Tilly and Chilwell underwelming.

Overall though a much improved performance.

Fantastic ratings post Dunge. You’ve broadly called it spot on and very interesting to see you articulate my thoughts in a much more articulate way than I could.

Two builds - one agreement and one disagreement.

1. Tielemans. You called this spot on. He really struggles in games where there is no space. Yesterday he looked totally out of sync with all his team mates, like he was playing 2 seconds behind real time or something. It was weird to watch. You’re right in that he has to learn how to affect these games more and also be more aggressive. He was very disappointing.

2. Thought you were harsh on Nacho who I thought was excellent. What he isn’t is fast so I understand the substitution and thought Barnes looked decent in that role. But Ian caused Man City problems and his close control and link up play was excellent.

All in all it was a good performance and a shame we couldn’t get a point. Confidence will be the main issue now - we need to get back to winning ways and fast.

Nothing too much to argue about Dunge. I reckon Ian came off as he hadn't recovered properly from being clattered by Ederson; he'd been doing OK until then.

A tad harsh on Barnes and Chillers maybe, The former made some decent breaks and the latter dealt with Mahrez reasonably well for the most part. I wouldn't necessarily drop Chilwell, as defence thrives on consistency. The more you swap it about, the more you leak.

I'm going to rate the crowd a 5. Generally noisy up until Man City scored and they realised we were going to lose. Low mark because of the disgraceful booing of Mahrez; without his contribution we don't win the league in 2015/16, so he deserves some respect for that - at least don't applaud him rather than boo if you are upset by his recent stupid comments. On a practical point, pulling that particular tiger's tail didn't work out very well for us did it?

Whilst we are on the blue tinted glasses brigade, what on earth was Pipes on last night on RL - he believed that we were the better side? Seriously - what game was he watching?

You could argued we were the better team first half Nuneaton, but the second half Man City dominated.

I also understand the booing of Mahrez. I didn’t personally but I was also offended by the disrespect he has shown towards our club in his comments. Not once, and a mistake, but then repeating and adding to them in another interview. The m only person to blame for ruining the legacy and relationship with the fans is Mahrez. I thank him for his great contribution to our club, but I can’t wish him well due the disrespect he’s shown our club despite providing him with the platform to be where he is now.

Don't get me wrong Mersey, we performed well defensively in a match where Man City dominated possession. We also created a number of promising situations going forward, but the quality wasn't there generally with final ball selection to turn these into chances to score; ultimately that was the difference between the sides. Having said which, on another day we could easily have got something from the game, if Vards had his shooting boots on and/or VAR had given us a peno. Still don't rate us as the better side though.

Absolutely no problem with your attitude towards Riyad - personally I'm far more forgiving of the young man's idiocy given the contribution he made to the club. I'm not going to change my mind however, booing of Mahrez is not acceptable, whatever people think of him now.

I agree our final ball has been letting us down a lot in our poor run. Even from the likes of Pereira and Maddison. People you think should be capable of the right decision.

Unlike Chilwell who I just assume will make the wrong decision when I’m a good attacking position.

Sorry Dunge. i just don't get this criticism of Chilwell. Yes, he had a poor run of form a few games ago, but I though he played really well yesterday and is regaining his form. Up against Mahrez and Walker is no easy task that I thought he did well.

No-one desevred less than a 7 / 10 yesterday

Can’t agree FFS. Chilwell was poor again for me. Getting the basics wrong and can’t seem to control a football at the minute. Was totally ineffective when going forward and defensively average but covered by Fuchs.

For me Dunge is spot on.

Is FFS on drugs?! How on earth could anyone think that Chilwell played really well yesterday?? The guy needs to be dropped and if possible sold in the summer while we can still get decent money for him. He’s absolutely atrocious and has been for about 3 months.

I thought we were very good yesterday considering the opposition and the fact that we didn’t have a single defensive midfielder available. Well done City - play like that going forward and we’ll be ok

I thought Chillers was better yesterday and did reasonably well against Riyad. Still poor going forward admittedly and struggling with ball control at times.

The important thing is this though, Pep said after the match that Leicester have 'incredible full-backs'. Note the plural, so maybe there's still a chance for us to flog him to Man City for stupid money in the summer! 😂

I thought it was well pointed out on MOTD how Chilwell gave Mahrez way too much room but what we did do fairly well was have Fuchs out there covering as well so when Mahrez walked past Chilwell Fucj s was in his way!

OK then TB, you're determined to not give any credit to Chillers so I'm going to point the finger at Brendan for having a formation previously that leaves Chillwell - who is clearly poor defensively - too exposed to Mahrez. He obviously learnt from his mistake and gave some better cover for the lad, who, as I've said before, had a better game as a result.

posted on 24/2/20

Did he, or was it the cover that worked?

Most of the time mahrez just walked past Chilwell again, it was the cover that prevented mahrez doing what he wanted and planting one in the top cover, he just had to pass it into another player.

They did highlight this and Chilwell was well adrift of Mahrez (presumably, he was set up to mark him or a he not?). I think they showed two instances but as I wasn’t there, any didn’t see the match on TV, surely this wasn’t the case throughout (or was it? 🙄).

Some bad grammar there. I’ll blame it on this blasted device.
