If somebody shows me a perfect role model, today, when all is out in the open, I'll show them a story in the media which says otherwise.

Not that I am saying Fury is a role model. For me you can take certain things from people without having to take everything. I mean anybody who uses Fury to inspire them, taking into account his determination, heart and battle to come back from what he has, isn't going to suddenly turn into a sexist homophobic xenophobe.

In that case I must reevaluate as I must be wrong somewhere here.

No, no. We are right. I often am.

It isn’t about being “woke”.

It’s about recognising the difference between a decent fighter and a decent human being.

Even Jesus would have hated this prikk.

I feckin hate that term, because more often than not, it's quite the opposite.

It is about being woke.

The guy has beat drink, drugs and depression to become heavyweight champ for the 2nd time. That's inspiring, despite his beliefs.

Lol you got to love these discussions

People are labelling religion/religious folk as backwards, retaaards etc etc based on their own beliefs whilst hating a man who says homosexuality is a sin based on his belief

Do you not realise all you all are presenting a belief?

True legend and a great role model for people with mental health issues

Was a Muslim and probably shared Fury's views

Tbh I'd prefer it if he kept his religious beliefs to himself. But in terms of as a human being, the reason Tyson has grown on me and so many people is because of the humanity he's shown, how he's faced his demons, spoken about them and come across as a genuinely decent human being, in spite of the position he's in, where it's far easier to just act the big man and never show any sign of vulnerability.

Genuine question for you (not just you tbh. And I'm not disagreeing with you as such)

Why is it ok for say a Graham Norton or a woman to bring their sexuality and gender onto the table when given a platform but not someone like Tyson?

Fantastic boxer but top bloke he ain’t.

Some of his views are abhorrent and that shouldn’t be forgotten.

Which views?

Think he'd mash up AJ

Fury seems like a nice enough guy despite some comments made in the past. Who cares in all honesty? Role models don't have to be perfect in every way, nor should they be. Best to take inspiration from the good things he's done if you're going to use him as an example.

I think the role models argument has many aspects anyway.

An upcoming boxer could have Fury as a role model based purely on boxing. No problems. It's relevant to where you are in life.
