“ Yes they won a European trophy too. So easy 1976-1984”

Of course it was. How many did Chelsea win back then?

1981, LIverpool played Oulun Palloseura, Aberdeen and CSKA Sofia to reach semis
=================================
1999 Man United came 2nd in the prem in 98, then won only 4 out of 10 games to reach the CL final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fergie Aberdeen were the best Scottish club at the time. The time when Scottish clubs had a chance because they could compete financially which is impossible now and only limited to 2-3 leagues.

In those days everyone had a chance. Was a level playing field. Now it is a monopoly.

Chelsea won a European trophy before Liverpool as did West Ham, Man City, United, Arsenal, Spurs.

Liverpool could not do it when European football was its best in the 60s and early 70s.

In the late 70s and early 80s, Spanish and Italian football was at all time low

German sides were decent

1985 Lech Posnan, Benfica, Austria Vienna and Panathaniakos to reach final

Nothing poor about Forest (under one of the greatest managers of all time) with the 1st Million Pound player up front, & a Villa side that were the best around in Europe at that time

Of course European football was at its best back then but easy between 76 & 84

If it was supposedly easy back then how come Chelsea couldn’t win one?

That Villa side 81/2 was pretty ordinary, finished 11th in league.

Forest side that won European Cup in 1980, lost 14 games and finished fifth in Div 1.

Forest were vg 77-79. Not so good 79/80

But had to beat better sides than Forest. Peak Barca, Bayern

It does when you are discussing the quality of European Cup winners.

I would rather have seen Ipswich representing us in the European Cup 1981/82.

Much better side than Villa
