Meh. Not exciting, other than it may mean Gomes will decide to stay too.

Ship Lingard and Andreas and give the chances to Chong, Gomes and garner. They can't do any worse.

Makes sense.

He’s already a viable squad option (and should hopefully continue to develop in that respect), we’d be securing a transfer fee if/when he leaves, and we’d have the choice to send him out on loan next season or keep him around as an U21 player, as he wouldn’t need to be registered in the 25 for the PL or for the CL/EL next season.

Chong hasn't been at all impressive so far but we have enough examples of young players coming on leaps and bounds after underwhelming at first that this should be welcomed. It's his decision making that let's him down above all, and that's something that can improve with experience and maturity.

That said, if I had to lose one of the youngsters who has featured this year, it would have been him.

I thought he has 99.9% Inter bound?

I can see things in Chong that give me hope he can make it.

But he needs to do better with the chances he gets.

He has really quick feet and will draw fouls in and around the area.

Another thing we haven’t really had the chance to see yet for the seniors is the fact that he has an absolute thunderbolt of a strike.

He’s been whacking them in past keepers in the U23s from the edge of the box the last 24 months, and half the time they ripple the net before the keeper even moves.

One thing United don;t seem to do as well as other clubs, is use the loan system to its full potential.Evidence with Henderson and Tuansebe should show that there is a great benefit to player and club if the loan is the right one.

I don't rate Chong at all, another squad filler at best.

On the other hand we should do everything in our power to retain Angel Gomes. Very disappointed with Ole under utilising him.

You watch highlights of the reserves and he looks a different player... Less tentative, direct, quicker getting shots off

Maybe all he needs is a bit of confidence or a goal to prove to himself he can do it at the higher level

He’s not a squad filler at the moment or next season though.

He wouldn’t take up a squad place as an U21 player. It’d be like having an additional free option for cup fixtures and emergencies.

I suspect he’ll go out on a season long loan though.

Never been that impressed by him. Needs a loan imo.

Having said that I wouldn’t be against starting him over James in the odd home game between now and May.

A lot of people write off mct.....then he got a decent run in the side. Perhaps Chong will show more if given more of a chance?

Fair point. James hasn’t been great for a while but keeps getting the nod. Can’t see us losing much by giving Chong a go.

He's actually one of the worst footballers I've ever seen. Hate him and his stupid hair.

Hahaha I do wonder how much of the hate comes because of the Fellaini wig

And last time out he looked decent and almost scored a goal. This is good for the club, and hopefully Gomes signs next. I think Ole can get these lads up to speed. Everything he's touched this season has turned to gold.

I hope Gomes does sign next.

Chong chose to stay as he'd be loaned out at inter (doesn't suit Conte's style). They also want him as he's part Chinese and Inter are owned by a Chinese business group.

I guess you have to be aggressively optimistic if you’re Fred’s shooting coach
