The message from England's deputy CMO seems like all is well:

Dr Harries said the vast majority of those diagnosed with coronavirus in Britain are "pretty well" but that they may "feel a bit rough for a few days".

She added: "Within 10-14 days we will be likely to advise people with symptoms to self-isolate and we are expecting that start of the peak [of coronavirus cases] to come during that period."

Dr Harries said cancelling big outdoor events like football matches would not necessarily be a decision supported by science.

"The virus will not survive very long outside," she said. "Many outdoor events, particularly, are relatively safe."

So 50k+ folk within close proximity to each other for a couple of hours is fine? I thought if you were to sit next to someone with the virus for more than 15 minutes you run the risk of infection.

Oh well. All is groovy. Carry on...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not so sure the adage of it "all being well so carry on" is right, but people moving around a free flowing air space might be better than in an enclosed area with artificial ventilation.

But then again, I'm no expert in this.

Dr Harries probably is though.

If the games are played behind closed doors they'd still be on the tv.

So the pubs would be rammed with folk wanting to watch the game.

Which would mean lots of people in enclosed spaces infecting each other.

Spectacular.

Also the Euro's will never be cancelled to prioritise the leagues. It's UEFA's cash cow.

In any event; the worst thing that might happen is that games are played behind closed doors.

I think.

Got to blame the media for causing this. The panic is caused by them and their desperation for clicks. This thing is hardly deadly.

Nope

The fallback position being considered is that Sky/BT play live all games but stop pubs from being able to screen them.

Keeping people indoors.

There was a modicum of sarcasm in there

Surely if we are being told that sitting next to an infected person for more than 15 minutes is bad...

There isn't this panic over the flu which kills more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good point timmy. We shouldn't bother listening to experts and scientists because someone who pretends to be a man and/or woman on a football forum says it's an overreaction
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What the Italians are doing is fine for their situation, what we are doing is correct for the stage that we are at but there is a lot of overreaction.
Bog rolls being sold out - is daft,
folk getting beaten up - is crazy
Internet posters criticising other posters for outing the overreaction - is daft x2
Listen to experts but don't overdo it

I thought the rangers game had already been decided to be behind closed doors next week.

To be fair Marco, his comment is ignorant and goes against all advice. We're two weeks behind Italy.

It's worth saying that anyone stockpiling toilet roll and buying up all the hand gels are idiots too - all advice says to use 60%+ alcohol gels if you don't have access to soap and water.

As ever, live your life normally untold not to. Wash your hands. Be aware of your own health and take sensible decisions if you think you may be infected.

Italy in hindsight would probably have much rather taken the action they have this week a few weeks ago when their cases were similar to ours now.

As for it not being as big a deal as flu that's one of the most idiotic comments I have ever read on here.

The fatality rate is increasing but currently is 20 times that of the flu. It's also spreading faster and more importantly there is no vaccine for vulnerable groups.

It's not stockpiling for Armageddon but it's definitely something we should all be worried about particularly if you usually get a flu vaccine or live with/have close family that do.

My wife for example has ms and is pregnant.

As said on here before, a focus on deaths is obviously important, but we also need to look beyond that at the bigger picture.

Using Italy as an example - and keeping in mind that they did very poorly on containment initially - the health service in Lombardi is completely falling apart because the system can't cope with all the hospital admissions. Our system will fail similarly. We don't have the ICU beds to cope with hundreds and thousands of people needing access to these systems. The impact will be significant (and means any minor ops/electives will be postponed).

Exactly

People who are saying this is no worse than a flu are crazily misinformed or downright stupid.

Theyre also the sort of people who spread because ' everythings fine ' and there theres ' no need to panic '

Absolute thundercunts
