pogba doesnt seem like a bad lad to be fair.
from what Ole has said ( and a few others to be fair) he works hard and when fit actually wants to play.

this could well be another Ronaldo situation, lets not forget his contract ends next year.... this could be a case of tying him down to get a better fee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It makes no sense from Pogba’s perspective to do that though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It does if he gets a wage rise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It makes it harder for us to sell him though
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why? Because he is on more money?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Think about it for a second Elvis.

it made sense from Ronaldos perspective either, but he did it for the benefit of the club

I think you need to re-read your history books
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he signed a contract in 2007 and wanted to leave in 2008, but stayed a year longer after fergie asked him to stay one more year... niot tocket science Robb... maybe you need re-read your history books
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You’re getting your situations mixed up. You’re smarter than this...

Ronaldo signed a new 5 year contract in April 2007. He hadn’t expressed any desire to leave till over a year later. He didn’t sign a contract after his desire to leave. He just stayed another year.

The situation with Pogba is different. He has already expressed an interest to leave - him signing a new contract with us will make it harder to leave for obvious reasons.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty sure that SAF said that he had kept him for 2 years after he had said he wanted to join Madrid. Could be wrong on that, but I believe that is what SAF said.

Just sell him in summer, get someone in who wants to be here, there’s been an improvement since Bruno arrived, a couple more hungry players in during summer will do

If we want to get back to the top, players like Pogba are essential. Not only because top players will want to play with him, he's also good in the dressing room, every player seems to love him. He's a world cup winner.

Then his talent. Maybe FINALLY with a competent midfield and strike force who can actually control the ball and finish and play on the same wave length as him, he will be seen at his best. His stats last season show how good he was for us.

Maybe he wants to line up with Bruno and possibly Sancho. Maybe we are finally fulfilling our promises of him being surrounded by good and able players. I reckon he was sold a bit of a dream that we will continue to buy good talent when he joined, and it never materialised.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

He was always linked with Real. Rashford was linked with Barca but he didn’t want to go. I doubt Ronaldo was wanting to leave back in April 2007. A year later he did want to go as he’d done it all with us but unlike your Pogba example, he didn’t then sign a new contract in 2008 after wanting out - he just stayed another year.

If anything, your Ronaldo example would have been more relevant in the summer of 2019 where Pogba wanted out but we didn’t let him go - this summer may (and should have been) where we finally gave him his Ronaldo moment

If Pogba is happy enough to sign a new deal (big if), then maybe all of Raiolas media stories were to force our hand?

He doesn't have too long left on his deal so it makes sense for us to sign him up if we aren't anticipating a big bid in the summer.

That's not true. He was talking about leaving and going to La Liga as far back as 2006. He said that he couldn't go back to United after what had happened with Rooney. Fergie had to fly out and meet him in Portugal to persuade him to stay. Then he did the same in 2008 when we kept him for another year.

Okay, so we all know he likely wants out and if he doesn’t move this summer it’s because Juve or Real don’t wanna pony up a transfer fee which in theory should be smaller because he only has one/two years on his contract. Right?

So if he signs a bumper 5 year deal it will be even costlier for a Real, Barca or a Juventus to buy him - so if he wants out eventually it makes more sense to run his contract down and move for free or at worst if we extend his contract he can still move but the fee will be around the £30/40 million mark and more clubs are interested

I want Pogba to leave mainly due to his agent. I'd prefer us not to deal with that guy. Other reasons is the circus that surrounds him. His talent as a player isn't questioned, though his effort now and then is. I think it's best we do sell and reinvest it in out midfield and attack.

I’m sure he always had his eye on going to Real. But he only strongly wanted to leave in 2008. And was convinced to stay but didn’t sign a new contract after SAF said give us a year - which is why that and the Pogba situation is different

If we were to sell this summer I guess we would want circa £100m with 2 years left on his deal. I don' think that we are going to get any more than that even if he has 4/5 years on his contract. So I don't think that it will impact his chance of moving this summer or next. Plus, Pogba would be missing out on increased wages for another year (possibly 2 if he sees his contract out).

It is even possible that he does actually want to stay now that he sees signs that we are getting things right. Doubtful though.

If he left for free though his signing on fee would be huge and way more than the wage increase he would get with us
