I can understand people wanting Pogba out because of his agent and publicly coming out and saying he wants to leave.

I can fully get on board with that.

What's weird though is wanting him out because of this myth that he is inconsistent in every facet of his game.

He never scored more than 10 goals at Juve in any given season, so he wasn't a goal scorer. He didn't dictate play, that was the job of Pirlo. I'm not entirely sure what people were expecting from Pogba when he joined. Maybe Keane, Scholes and Viera rolled into one...

Since coming from Juve he has became the highest scoring/assisting player in our team last season. In fact not only in our team but in all of Europes top 3 leagues.

For all this talk about laziness, he won the most possession and individual duels in our entire team last season.

He created the most chances, had the most take-ons, most shots on target and passes into the final 3rd than anybody else in our team.

He was literally our best player last season and people are actually questioning his consistency in team which was a million miles away from the one we have now?

The worst thing is, people are actually talking about replacing him with Grealish with a straight face. Grealish is a bench warmer for our club with our ambitions. I love McT and Fred, I think they're great but they should also take a seat next to Grealish.

Thankfully Ole seems to be thinking bigger and he wants midfield packed with quality. He blatantly doesn't want Pogba to leave, this isn't just about Real not wanting to spend the money.

A midfield of Pogba, Bruno and another top quality signing to play in the pivot (Partey and Denis Zakaria are current links) would be feared in Europe.

🙏🙏🙏

I have no issues with his quality, and little with his consistency.

I just don’t think he suits the way Ole wants us to play, in terms of the kind of characters he wants on the pitch, his preferred approaches with and (more importantly) without the ball, and with the roles he has in his setup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What's wrong with Pogba's character in your opinion and how is it you think Ole wants to play?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t say there’s anything wrong with Pogba’s character. I said I don’t think he’s the kind of character Ole wants to see on the pitch.

Ole wants ball-hungry players, full of movement off the ball, who have high positional intelligence, and when instructed to do so under particular circumstances in particular parts of the pitch will work hard to get the ball back. Pogba is the first, and only the first, of those four.

Ole is slowly moving us back towards where we were in the weeks after he took over, where we were in preseason and where we’ve been at times in recent weeks.

Next season we’re going to see more of that, which is broadly how he also had his Molde team playing latterly.

4-2-3-1 or 3-4-1-2, playing out from the back with set patterns used to draw the opposition up the pitch and players running into space with the ball when they get free and can carry the ball. (Fred is actually pretty good at this; he is league leading in carries through the transition.)

Fullbacks pushed up high on the wings to allow the supporting line to come inside to play with the striker and midfielders through the middle and to create overloading opportunities.

Fullbacks will stay up to press the ball when it is turned over, one of the midfield pivot will drop in in front of the CBs.

More of the coordinated high press, which we’ll see Rashford, James and Bruno particularly involved in. Less concern with losing the ball in the final third, and more on taking chances as we’ll be set up to win it back.

I don’t think we really know who, and what, suits what Ole wants. He supposedly wanted to play a high line with attacking full backs providing width, then goes out and signs Maguire and AWB. He’s clearly not much of an idealist given how he’s set up the team in his time in the job. We’ll learn more once Pogba is fit and able to play in this team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has AWB and he has Dalot.

And we’ve seen AWB play very high up in recent weeks. Part of the reason he’s there, despite not being incredibly proficient going forward, is that he has great recovery pace (if not acceleration), and a superb recovery tackle.

AWB vs City

4 offensive dribbles
2 crosses
1 key pass
8 tackles (4 recovery tackles)
3 interceptions (he’s going to do this in the oppositions half a lot)
3 accurate long passes

I think this is exactly what Ole wants to see from his fullbacks.

Dalot doesn’t play and AWB is a poor attacking full back. You’ve not really disputed my claim. AWB doesn’t get forward enough nor does he provide quality when he does. And Maguire limits our ability to play a high line.

So again, what Ole wanted to do and what he has done are different things. He’s displaying pragmatic thoughts rather than anything idealist, which is why he’s used Pogba, Matic, McTominay and Fred in a double pivot despite being different types of cm.

We’ll see what happens when Pogba’s fit, it’s likely he’ll be starting in cm again where you kept telling me he wouldn’t.

Holy sh** no way!! Hahaha

That is a tricky one

Do you have to do some kind of self-containment when you get back do you know?

I think he’ll be out the door Dazza.

If Ole drops any of McT, Fred or Matic (on current form) to try to shoehorn Pogba into the double pivot as a permanent fixture, I’ll be ready to call for his head, because it’d be very insensible to do so IMO.

Probably not

I’ll be very, very mildly displeased though
