Governments are in full swing to prop up the bubble that is the global economy and this is far, far from a worst case pandemic.

I think this whole thing has held up a mirror to us all about the knife edge balance that we live on (western world, especially). Someone once said civilisation is only nine meals away from anarchy and that looks pretty true, right now.

This.

We aren’t even close in this country to a dangerous pandemic and look at the reaction.

Greed, fear and panic will cost more lives than the actual virus at this rate

This is what the country wanted when they employed the Tories for another term. Socialism for the rich!

Agreed. It’s definitely opened my eyes up. The mob mentality is beginning.

We should all go back to carrying our pensions around in the form of gold teeth.

It keeps the bubble going a little bit longer

I would prefer us to be looking a bit deeper into our lifestyle habits and seeing how we can pull away a bit from globalised capitalism.

I'm more worried about the 70/80k of people that rely on that industry as a means of earning money.

If you honestly think people(lets call them s for accuracy) are going to start looking at their lifestyle habits because some old folks die you are as crazy as the folks stockpiling shat roll.

A vast majority of people don't give a feck about others, that has become even more obvious than usual, nothing will change.

It’s interesting that so many people are quick to throw insults at people stockpiling yet aren’t as angry at a dithering government giving mixed messages and lagging behind the responses of the rest of the world.

All this division is letting the government get away with what it always gets away with

I think anyone with any sense(granted that eliminates 50% of the population) thinks the government, UK or USA and indeed anywhere have largely been hopeless. The distribution of information has been shockingly poor here, i had always assumed in a state of emergency information would be attainable or even distributed quite quickly but i sat here talking to the missus last night and we actually still don't really know the protocol when infected, or actions to take regarding older folks etc. It should be set in stone by now, ticker tape at the bottom of the tv station, flyer through the door etc etc. Fack all.

Why stockpile though?

It just creates even more chaos, people are supposed to be civilised yet some act like rabid dogs at times like this, then it just snowballs

oh, i know nothing will change unless things get so serious that they have to.

Same with climate change, overpopulation etc ... While it's problems are just a cloud on the horizon, we will all prefer to carry on living like kings.

Corona is a bit more direct, as we generally all know people in the danger zone (70+).

British airways is a major client for my job and if they go bust or whatever that’s my job gone straight away. I’m very worried tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats quite amusing... lost count the amount of times youve yelled and complained and wanted managers sacked... now you might be.. thats karma
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Little unfair that. If a football manager gets sacked they often get paid their full contract and can walk into a new job right away and probably benefit better financially than if they hadn’t been sacked.

Slightly different for the normal Joe Soap’s like ourselves.

People who stockpile are just reacting in a human way - it’s down to the government to assume people will do this and put measures in place where limits of stuff are there to be adhered to. It’s only now they seem to be doing so.

I’d hazard a guess that most people who have stockpiled will ease off the runs on the shops as they have what they need and the shops will restock everything. I spoke to a girl I know who works at Sainsbury’s and she says they’ve tripled their normal deliveries to the store and the runs on foods aren’t a huge deal for them - other than having enough manpower to sit on the tills etc and people are happily coming in and making more money doing more work.

I agree that people literally taking the piiiiiss - I’ve seen people coming out of shops and then going back in again are douchebags but it’s an entirely human response. We are by definition sheep. We need responsible herders but so far no one is showing the strength up top to herd us yet

I went shopping at weekend and could get toilet roll as all shelves were empty, in all shops, now I’ll have to make a second visit during the week in the hope there will be some, which in turn will make me look like I’m stockpiling as I’ll only be buying that one item, all this due to selfish individuals who hit the panic button at the first sign of a crisis
