Very sideways step, whats the point?

Good player but no thanks.

In his 30’s and relies a lot on pace. Decline could happen sooner quick.

His big game record has been suspect enough at Arsenal but that could be more to do with Arsenal than him to be fair.

If we get a top quality right sided attacker I’d be happy with keeping Ighalo. We don’t need a big money CF right now. I’d rather give Martial the opportunity to build on a promising season.

Martial will only get better as a CF and we also don’t want to affect Greenwood’s development.

I imagine at this stage in his career, he'll want to be winning trophies, rather than going to United.

I try to look at it objectively, but not always successfully so I might not be right, but I don't really think there is.

I realise you were in a good run of form off the back of signing Fernandes, but before that Ole didn't look like he had a clue and not enough has happened to change that opinion for me. I think Arteta has more about him.

The squad difference is marginal, both have potential in other areas and sorely lacking in others. Only place you really trump us clearly is the money you can spend.

The thing is though we’ve had one of our poorest seasons ever and are still ahead of Arsenal.

We also have a younger squad, a far better defence and more importantly our key players are much younger.

We are also more likely to spend more money and we will get it right eventually.

I think Arteta does have a lot about him but I’d be quite surprised if Arsenal are a title challenger again before United.

memories of RVP
———
Thing is RVP wasn’t actually that good a signing. Yes he carried us to a league title, but after that didn’t really have much impact at United.

Auba is not going to carry us to the league title like RVP did so it’d not be worth the investment when we have other areas to prioritise.

I also doubt he’d wanna come at this stage of his career anyway. I do think our prospects in the near future are more promising than Arsenal’s, but not enough for him to be convinced to come when he’ll be probably be looking at going to a team that can challenge for titles.

we lost the league title on GD

we signed him and walked it and he was top scorer

how can that not be a good signing

posted on 19/3/20

I said it wasn’t THAT good a signing. You sign players for more than one year, and he offered little after his first season. If we’d signed Lewandowski we’d have been in much better shape up front and would likely have still won the title anyway - City’s fall off was dramatic, we maintained our level.

I don’t think Auba would be the same as RVP anyway as he’s not as good but not as injury prone. There wouldn’t be that many similarities beyond the age and clubs that were trading the player.

Well yeah, we're having our poorest season in my living memory too, so we're both in a pretty bad place. The difference is we've got Arteta in who could take us back up (too early to tell), while you've got Ole who has been there long enough to suggest he just doesn't have the ability to get you top 4.

I'm pretty sure we have the youngest average age in the league? Maybe joint with Wolves, at least at the start of the season we did.

One thing Ole does seem to do is spend the money well. If Bruno continues on like he is then this could be the start of something, but it's a lot to ask of one player.

To me we both seem like middling clubs with different issues, with not much between us. If I was going to move I'd not want to move from one to the other, I'd want to move a level up from the two of us.

he scored 58 goals in 105 appearances

he had to live through the Moyes era.

30m even then, that's a good signing in anyones eyes

But I don’t think it was that good. One good season and two where he had a decent enough scoring rate but couldn’t stay fit and his impact on the team was drastically reduced from the first.

Nobody ever talks about how good RVP was at the club beyond the first season. That was his legacy.

It's a wum because you often come on our site if we are discussing buying player x to inform us that he won't sign for us because he wants CL or to win trophies. Even if you believe thst, once is enough, we don't need your opinion on every occasion, but you enjoy giving it.

The other ONE time, I was referring to De Ligt, who had a host of top clubs who were on for trophies in for him. Therefore it was unlikely he was going to choose you over them.

This time is due to his age. If he was younger I could definitely see him leaving Arsenal and going to United but it would be a sideways step now and therefore I can't see it happening as at this stage of his career he'd likely want trophies.

Just because you don't like to hear something doesnt make it a WUM and I'm sure many United fans on here would agree with what I have said.

Stop bending the word 'WUM' around when you don't agree with somebody. It's pathetic.

Yes I dont think you'll be in a great position to win trophies, with the few years he has left at the top. I could be wrong.

Why do you think RvP left Arsenal to join United at that stage of his career? To win trophies. However United were in a good place at that time. This is why you're not buying from the top table anymore although Fernandes was an absolutely outstanding signing, who I wanted at Liverpool.

Anyway, I'll leave you to it, no point debating with you when you're complaining about what I'm saying, rather than debating the topic. I have no issue with you and can debate with you on other topics but this issue you have with were you are as a club and me pointing it out is not one of them.

Enjoy.
