The people working on the front line of this virus fight in the NHS or in our version the HSE are national heroes in my opinion.
The doctors who have died in Italy fighting this disease should be properly honored when this passes.

It is brilliant what they do in Barcelona and other Spanish cities every evening coming to the windows and applauding the health workers.

the military has the ability to set up field hospitals, surely?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They do, but I heard it’s not part of the plan. Too logistically confusing and might slow down responses, or something. They’ll put their medics in regular hospitals first.

so much for social isolation

Staying in the house and applauding from the window seems to be within most suggested guidelines.

To be fair scaffies have been applauding nurses for years.

Can only hope that when this is over that they’re all shown the right level of appreciation and rewarded appropriately.

The situation is getting pretty serious now with the government appealing to former / retired doctors and nurses to support the NHS. The politicians must know that there is a big wave of cases about to arrive.

Those countries that have taken a strict ‘lockdown’ approach seem to be getting on better. If they have done that early. The government’s nudging, rather than imposing, may come back to haunt them.

If nothing else comes out if this crisis, the UK government must see the need to strengthen the NHS significantly. In Germany, the far higher number of health resources have served them well.

Stay safe folks and let’s all follow the directives. 👍

I was in favour of locking the whole country down in January. As an island we were well placed to avoid this.

We put money first and it will cost lives and more economic issues in the long term

Agree, here in Canada the government has done quite a number in scaring the bejesus out of everyone, but then again when yesterday's headline is "Two people in Ottawa tested positive for covid...bringing the total to 19" you have to think that perhaps this is after all the correct approach. Time will tell.

Just as long as they don't look at how much of a German salary goes on paying for the health care, you'll be ok......But yes, the system definitely works much better in general.

Yes the vanity projects need to be stopped and the cash redirected. Some of the ‘Arts’ stuff, while appealing to lots of people, would rank well below health in the priority table.

...and not everything is free, right? IIRC only about 75% funded by gov and the rest is mandatory private cover...? Something like that?

Yet the funding for German arts is huge too, Heed.

Much being said about the clause in Hearts contracts allowing suspension of player contracts if the game is suspended. I suspect it is a standard clause in every football contract in the land because the exact same wording appears in one I know of.

12. In the event of the Scottish FA deciding that the game shall be suspended, either entirely or in any district or districts as provided for in the articles of association of the Scottish FA, this Agreement shall be correspondingly suspended, unless the Club is exempted from such suspension or the Club otherwise determines.

I’m sure you’re correct but the U.K. government must get the U.K. priorities right here. Simple hierarchy stuff, not political pet projects. 👍
