Aye nows the time to act

And come back to what?

There will be no economy. This will end and it will end in months or at least be manageable.

You can't have worldwide shutting down as everyone runs out of money; people don't get paid and nobody produces. The impact of that would be far more serious.

More serious than a sky high death rate?

The economy will recover, a corpse can't.

The death rate from a long term lockdown will be far higher.

The economy won't simply recover.

It was only a few days ago we were expecting 250,000 UK deaths. Now it's around 20,000 (being a "decent" result).

I'm not downplaying the impact or the severity of this but don't think just stopping everything in its tracks will be better. It won't

And we will find treatments and eventually a cure.

We will also be better prepared for next time.

I think its completely mental that somebody actually knew about this before it happened and he was shushed.

There will surely be ramifications regarding that when this is all over

Very droll

We are talking about the impact of closing everything down for an indeterminate amount of time.

It will recover, it always recovers. People need stuff, stuff has to be made, transported, used.

What I've seen of the general public recently, I would be expecting the worst. Italy had a lockdown for a reason, why good old Boris isn't following suit is astounding.

It's never experienced anything like this. To just assume it will recover is thoughtless.

What will recover exactly? The airlines that didn't survive? The manufacturers of goods who closed down? The construction market that doesn't exist? The farmers who don't get paid? The high street shops who can't get supplies and close?

And how will people pay for these things when they've had no money come in for months on end.

This lockdown law going through parliament is being recommended to be in place for 2 years. Most businesses can't survive with no activity for longer than a few months.

Italy is completely different to us in practically every way imaginable.

How so what? I've just explained the situation.

Italy allowed the virus to go unchecked for weeks on end because they misdiagnosed the thing. It's deep seated with over 90% cases in Lombardy. The rest of Italy has nowhere near that number.

Italy and Spain have both been in lockdown for a few weeks now and their death tolls are through the roof , there are reasons why the government is not introducing lockdown

posted on 23/3/20

Lock down is coming very soon I think. We will undoubtedly lose businesses that people worked exceptionally hard to build. They'll be replaced by others and the economy will go on. Its going to be hard for a lot of people

Aye but lockdown surely isn't the reason their death tolls are through the roof

That makes no sense

I think you're right but this 2 year bill is of grave concern. Are we suggesting we will be in this state for another 24 months or is it a case that it can be brought back out and dusted down if needed again?

posted on 23/3/20

I think it was more set it longer as it looks like you don't have control if you need to keep getting extensions.

posted on 23/3/20

I suspect they'd need it 9-12 months. But I'm not in the know

^ This.

They did it too late, they let everyone have a last weekend out, at least that wont happen here...
