Worth a read for anyone still of the opinion the government's decision making process has not been 'political'

How on earth is striving to do everything humanly possible to prevent, treat, and test (saving feking lives) covid19 tribal?
The UK is woefully short of test kits, and ventilators. People who may not have otherwised die, will.
If the UK can procure this life saving equipment from abroad, why on earth would anyone (in their right mind) object.

Would I have preffered an early lockdown like we now have? Yes, maybe 7-10 days ago but again did Boris take advice from the experts on that and was perhaps told "na, leave it atm"
I will still hate the same politicians and policies after this is over but I'm not qualified to apportion blame about this

Greetings WWSPD.
This time last year it was brexit by 31.3.19.
Now it's life or death.
Stay safe dude.
Are you in work or home with family now.?
Oh FFS. Having a pop at me ain't going to solve anything. How about you actually think about the questions I asked - please, have a think and ask yourself why can we still mot give our front line medical services, care workers and essential workers the PPE (personal protection equipment) they need to do their jobs?
Why do we not, weeks after this started, have enough of the basics, handsanitiser, facemasks etc, etc.?
Fundamentally, the decisions this government has taken/delayed in taking/ not taken will determine to a large extent how many people, including poorly protected front-line staff, will die in this pandemic.
Personally. I think they have not treated this seriously enough from the beginning and as a result many, many more people will die because their decisions. I do think Boris and chums are now trying desperately to contain this - but it smacks of much too little and much too late.
G'night.
You are just repeating yourself and all questions have been answered.
I don't know why the QEUH have not enough stuff.
Ask Nicola?
The truth is they did have until this broke
The NHS has been underfunded and not just in the last 2 months (try 10 + years)

Does that somehow absolve them of choosing to opt out of the EU EU pandemic procurement system? The point I had initially made.

The facts presented by all experts show that preventing social contact reduces the spread of the virus. It is very simple to understand. Boris didn’t call for a lockdown and it has resulted in a greater spread and risk. Argue against that if you will.
The experts stood right next to him when he advised against lock down or rather the experts did.
So its the experts who dictate the policy
Boris and Nicola just follow it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And do you think that politicians don’t have a say in the timing? He mucked it up through choice. He decided when he would call a lockdown and it has backfired.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
THEY HAVE FEK ALL SAY IN THE TIMING.
You think the experts said to minimise the impact we lockdown now.
Boris na we will no bother..
Do you think Nicola said Im ignoring the expert advice and will just follow Boris?
Actually forget the question I know its what you think.
Spain had more deaths this week than the UK in total.
Should we be doing what they are doing or have done?.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spain has a different demograph, more older people, living longer with family, lots more hugging and kissing when meeting and saying goodbye, lots more social gatherings. The virus had a chance to spread much more quickly. The USA didnt see much cases in the beginning either and now its exploding as well, and might even become the new epicentre, by acting sooner they could have prevented that. Just wait, the UK waited too long, the exponential spread will come.
On 12 March the UK and the Netherlands had roughly the same amount of cases, 111 v 130. Today the UK had 1400 cases, Netherlands 800. I would say in a week time the UK will look a lot different, and it wont be positive.

As I said the pandemic is not political. the virus is intent only on reproducing not caring who it infects or kills. The response by our government has been purely political*
——————————
History might tell us that the Government perhaps didn’t act quick enough regarding certain issues - but that last statement about the Governments response being political is absolute utter tosh - I don’t know how you’ve got the nerve to even make such a pathetic of stupid comment -
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How come since Jan when we knew this was coming we have not had enough hand sanitiser?
How come the UK has only 5,000 ventilators for a population of 66 million?
How come in the UK airlines, including billionaire Branson, can ask for government help the same day as the owner of Easy Jet gets a £30 million dividend payout?
How come this govt thinks £90 a week is enough to live on?
The answers to all of these are based on political decisions - and if you want a decent definition of politics - try Politics:Who gets what, when and how.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A little bit scattergun Tully...the ventillators were plenty until now....Did the government give the easyjet guy the money?
Awfully convenient to pick on successful businessmen as the problem in times of panic. Balanced opinion and thoughts would be helpful to all
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Billionaire Branson had his begging bowl out before most people had heard of the virus tbf
Had he not stuck his bearded face above the parapet no one would be talking about him.
30,000 ventilators being shipped in as we speak.

Boris's government has taken some 'interesting' decision that in retrospect - even at this very early stage - look remarkably suspect. Thesr include, 'herd immunity that would have seen hundred of thousands dead, Cheltnam, Allowing Atheltico fans to travel from Madrid to Liverpool despite Madrid being a 'hotspot' and scientists warning against it , shaking hands in hospital FFS, not closing schools or banning large event early enough, FFS even the SFA saw that coming.
I think some of these decisions were completely irresponsible and in retrospect will be judged as incompetent.

The demographic and geographic spread is different in each nation. You have to ask, why did Italy not close it’s northern boarders to stop brits leaving a known danger zone. Why did Austria let brits who had been in the epidemic area travel back via Vienna. Why were they not checked coming back into UK.
But ultimately, after going to/being in a dangerous area, did these people self isolate.
Nope, that has to be the fault of the government right?
I have refused any travel from the start of the outbreak with work and also agreed a 12 month break on any European travel after the end of my own 12 week isolation.
Because I am a sensible member of society that doesn’t need to be told what is right to do.

God forbid the government put aside dogmatic political ideology, and actually focussed on pooling resources in a combined effort to save lives.

Unless they're completely ignorant.

The government has implemented a number of fantastic measures and packages to mitigate the virus impacts.
Does that somehow absolve them of choosing to opt out of the EU EU pandemic procurement system? The point I had initially made.
Your response was to put your head in the sand and cite boredom, rather than ever bother to debate the points I made.
