Now isn't the time to criticise government

Fack patriotism, this government are the most inept administration we’ve had in decades. Good article Russian.

OP.

We can call out Boris and the govt who were too slow, vague on detail etc....And not helping self employed or benefit customers.

I can accept that and hsve moaned about govt not locking down earlier, and telling people to stay at home, rather than gather in groups and panic buy or ignore social distancing.

That said, what is annoying is folk who are Corbyn bots using this to play party politics while praising what jezza says etc.

No matter what Tories do, some will bash them, which is fair enough, as I bash Corbyn, but using tragedies to score party political points is futile at this time.

Hope that clarifies how I and other feel.

Thanks.

But let's not turn this into another pro-government vs anti-government thread. I'd like this to be a discussion where a lot of people from across the political spectrum can agree on this point of principle.

Patriotism is ok for other people, just not the British lol.

Patriotism is love of country and people and a community and not an evil.

Patriotism is not live of govt or party.

And it is not nationalism, which can mean hatred of other.

The nurse on GMB (who I suspect you are talking about) got her point across very well and with a sense of authenticity that Boris and many professional double speakers out there in recent weeks have failed to do so.

I really hope that after all of this the NHS staff are treated like the heroes they are and get recognition and payrises. Hopefully they are able to be part of the planning for future health crisis’ like these.

Count your lucky stars you don't participate on the Election thread.

For weeks a few nerds like me were praising the govt for some reasons and also criticising for others. A couple of lovely folk spent the subsequent few weeks vitriolicly berating all and sundry for the disgusting partisanship.

Funnily enough, those same people are now sheite scared for themselves and families.

The Post-Truth Era knows no bounds.

Most of us said govt were slow to act and did not give bojo a pass, or Trump.

Most of us are trying to behave in a civil and supportive manner.

As I said, some people Also use the virus or Grenfell or floods to bash their party rivals, and just hate other opinion.

People did vote conservative twice over Corbyn so that view should be heard here too, and not dismissed as racism, bigotry or xenophobia, as you have called some here.

I say that as a non Tory who just also happens to see jezza as a joke too.

I think the key thing is to accept that for every unwaveringly partisan person on Twitter or on this website, there are may more who don't deserve to be caricatured as bots.

The problem is, we tend to react more hotly when those kinds of people attack our side, and too often let it pass when they attack the other. We're all guilty of that. I've seen legitimate, measured criticism of the government's handling of the pandemic answered by "yeah, but imagine if Corbyn were in charge?" That approach introduces point scoring too. But I understand that when we feel entrenched in this tribalistic climate, we sometimes take reasoned criticism as something more than that, and descend to that level.

Whilst all true, I find the cooperation, especially here in Northern Ireland, between opposite parties who are normally arguing and blaming each other, as well as the 'quick' changes comparatively speaking and pushing through of plans to help people, quite refreshing.

Let's see how many people just read the headline and maybe 1st paragraph!

I would say that most all of the recent key decisions have come off the back of strong public opinion. We need to maintain this pressure and make sure the path continues to stay on the topic of public health and protection for the key workers.

On a side note, we need to stay very vocal about the way corporations work in these times... Praise the good and absolutely demolish the bad.

Did you know Cummings wanted lockdown last week, after he went from herd immunity to reading scientific medical experts from Imperial College.

Cummings may be a bogeyman, but it was Boris who opposed lockdown earlier.

You on the sauce already RR?

Just opened an icy cold Sapporo.

RR is right to open debate across the political spectrum, even if that is not cool to you here.

You need to open your mind and let hate go, bro.

We are similar, personality wise, and being angry and passionate can be positive, but also a negative.

Spot on mucker.

If dup and SF can unite, why can't we do this here.

We can boot Boris in the balls for being bojo, but also joke about jester jezza.

If we can only attack the Tories or dup, and not Corbyn or SF or dems in America, that is just wrong, imo.

Not healthy either.
