however those who can't help themselves form having a go at people who might want to pray is just total intolerance.

It's just sizzle, as we've seen in other threads he does have trouble accepting views that differ from his own, but there's still hope for him.

And he does have a point that religion can and has been used very badly at times in history. Personally I follow Jesus who said the most important thing for us to do is to love, so I'm against any kind of hatred. And thankfully there are many people, religious or not, who agree and want to make society a better place!

The Evangelicais in America are already blaming this virus on the gaays and adulterers, and the mega churches are telling people they must still send money even if they lose their jobs.

Religion.

Would you look to the US to find out how to run healthcare?

In the same way don't look to the US to find out how to follow Jesus.

Fair enough, I can't argue with that. I fail to love everyone 100% of the time so I'm a hypocrite too.

But that's part of being a Christian: admitting we get things wrong and seeking forgiveness from God and others for it, then trying to do better next time.

Before I was a Christian I thought exactly the same! People suck.

But then I realised that I was just as bad as the rest and God loved me, along with everyone else who sucked. And if we follow him he calls us to be like him, loving everyone, so that's what I try to do.

By the way, love doesn't mean ignoring people's wrongdoing or agreeing with everything they do - but working for their good despite that.

sizzle being very judgemental as usual

The problem is that you live in a massive city which does not have a particularly neighbourly aspect to it. I would guess that in many parts, people hardly know who lives next door to them, let alone down their street.

Living in a village, we have a very strong community, with people helping others out as part of their daily life. This is even more so now during these unprecedented times, the generosity and selflessness of people has almost been overwhelming. The village Facebook page is full of people volunteering to check on others, get food for them, prescriptions etc.

Our local newsagent who does not normally have a delivery service, now delivers papers, milk, potatoes, bread etc to anyone in the village. The only thing you pay for are the goods, delivery is free.

So your statement that most people are bloody awful, is a sad indictment really. Possibly says more about you though and the way you go about your life. I don’t know and am not an expert, but would suggest that the vast majority of people want to get on with people and also help others if they can.

Yet another thing Christians always fail to do, practice what they preach.

Religion.

What has religion done? All I see here is people taking advantage and treating other people like sheet and using religion as a cover. Its been happening before there was religion and will continue to happen after religion.

If religion didn't exist they'd use something else as an use to flagellate people and extort money from other human beings.

Its about human nature saan. We are brutal animals. We make excuses for our horrible intentions and religion is one of the best ones but if religion didn't exist, we would still be stealing, killing and maiming each other all over the place.

Religion preaches peace. Don't blame the flaws of man on religion

Yeah, not much.

Only when things are good.

The moment there is a shortage of any vital resource people go from Jekyll to Hyde. Or is it the other way around?

You're thinking small time. Why is America going after all the oil? Why did the colonial powers leave their own lands to steal the wealth of other lands etc. Its human nature to conserve what's close to them and their hearts while at the same time destroying and killing others in large scale at a distance.

Ever heard a drowning man will clutch at a straw? Its true. In the movies when someone is drowning they always jump in and save them but a real drowning is nowhere near what you see in the movie. The rescuer must have more power than the rescuee. Otherwise the rescuee climbs all over their rescuer in the water and both of them drown. Its general human nature, if things get bad enough we'll do anything. There are exceptions but sadly this is the norm.

What happens is that the rescuer waits until the rescuee becomes docile before going into the water and pulling them out. Sounds harsh but necessary.

Which war has religion started?

Is religion a physical person?

All wars are started by men under the guise of religion. Other times they use land, other times they use money but yeah, mostly they blame it all on God when really they are after land, wealth or oil.

We owe religion our civilisation.

If it wasn't for religion, writing would not have developed as it did and organised society would never have existed.

Convincing primitive man that there was a greater power watching and judging them is what allowed organised society to exist. Otherwise life would have remained nasty, brutish and short as it had been for millions of years before religion.

If there was no God it would be something else. That's the point.

Religion is just there and anyone that wants to use it to accomplish heinous acts is free to do so. Thats yhe problem. People are even starting their own religions and its ending in blood sometimes.

Its not the fault of religion, its the fault of people.

If I start a religion now and tomorrow my god tells me to kill 100 people, is that the fault of religion or am I just insane?

Erm life is still like that.

My personal belief is that religion should be “practised” at home behind closed doors away from ordinary people.

Anyone practising religion outside their home should be sectioned and dealt with under the mental health act. Because that’s what it is, a mental illness.
