You can probably place non footballers into the mix, as daft as it sounds... The likes of superstar DJs, Oasis, britpop in general, kate moss and other models, even Tony Blair all contributed to making all things British something very exportable.

I think Beckham was probably the footballing symbol of that cool britania era. So it would have to be him... But yes, on Wenger's influence did bring a certain style to the league too.

PL only began to overtake Seria in the the late 00s, so one would have to go with thenlikes of Henry, Ronaldo, RVP, Abramovic.

Notable mentions to Drogba, Ji Sung Park, Tim Howard, Tim Cahill who were PL superstars in their respective regions and helped in the effort

you mean early 00's

to be fair Serie A still had better players even in 1999 when utd faced Juve in the CL.

But as an overall package the Eng PL was getting better

Now that the dust has settled and all of the nonsense written about Wenger by both Arsenal and rival fans in his latter years at the club is under the bridge and well downstream, I think we should actually be able to have a sensible discussion about the man again.

For me, he is unquestionably second on the list of PL managers and up there amongst the greatest few the country has ever seen. He’s the only one who deserves to have his name spoken in the same sentence as SAF through the PL years.

Mourinho’s record is obviously incredibly impressive, as is Pep’s - they’re third and fourth on the list - but they haven’t had quite the same impact on the league or on the clubs they’ve managed here.

Sorry about getting all tangential!

Despise AFC with an irrational passion (generally the most ignorant/arrogant fans), but Mr Wenger was a managerial mastermind.

Whildt SAF had unrivalled talent to work with, Mr Wenger pushed some real journeyman into the hearts and minds of ECL followers - way above levels individual merit would otherwise have earned.

It's not rocket science to recognise that many of the players that 'starred' in his earlier squads, left for other clubs often returning to being little more than what they were before they arrived - and some 'big names' become mere benchwarmers.

He really helped sell the league as better (in terms of talent) than it actually was.

Other than him I can only suggest Ronaldo - for perhaps more obviously marketable reasons

It was MOURINHO

PL domination of Europe started when he came and ended shortly after he left. No coincidence

What question are you answering, Wahlly? Cos it ain't the one asked by the OP.
Mourinho came here because it was the biggest league in the world, he didn't make it that.

The Pl didn’t dominate Europe until Mourinho came. That’s a fact

PL didn't dominate when Mourinho was here first time, and he never won the CL with Chelsea.

I think Spurs signing Klinsmann changed the landscape transfer-wise.

He was the first really high profile foreigner to come and play in the PL. It made others sit up and consider England as a real option, rather than Serie A or La Liga.

Gullit came the year after, and I think the following year was when clubs really started to look at bigger world stars rather than domestic transfers.

Of course the influx of money went a long way to making this happen.

David Dein. Copied from Wiki - In an interview with the Financial Times, Greg Dyke the current Chairman of the FA stresses the central role of David Dein in the creation of the Premier League when he states "David Dein was the most revolutionary bloke I've met in football. David Dein created the Premier League it was his idea." David Dein was appointed President of G14 in October 2006.

I think we have our man.

Wenger and Fergie battles.

It cemented premier league over Seria A who dominated the 90s.

Liga became really popular 00s with Madrid/Barca to also surpass Italy but always playing catchup to Prem.

As for managers - has to be Wenger - he changed the face of football in the top flight - an absolute purist 👍🏼

Wenger changed English football for sure, so did Jose. Fergie was good at adapting to challenges.

I think even in 99 Utd were underdogs vs Inter, Barca, Juve and probably Bayern. We won the competition but i wouldn't say by that point the PL was Europe's best.

Perhaps even until 2006 that was that case

Hard to disagree with this. When Wenger came in, he was buying young foreign players for peanuts, relatively speaking, going through youth teams around the world and bringing them in. The problem for him came when others started copying this model. This made it more difficult and he, if he was allowed to, should have changed approach, at that point as he already had the team build, he could then add big names to it but he either chose not to or he wasn't allowed to.

Without doubt, Wenger improved the PL massively, especially the actual football.

He reached the semi final multiple times and the pl definitely did dominate. Every year he was year and every year after for a while an english team was in the Cl final.

Mourinho made sir Alex raise his game. He had to to compete with mourinho. mourinho raised the level of this league whether his bitter haters will admit that or not.

CL winners in Mourinhos time at Chelsea:
Liverpool, Barcelona, AC Milan.
Even if you extend it 3 years longer then it is 2 each from England, Spain and Italy. Then Spain dominated.

Where exactly is English dominance?

Chelsea in semi finals in 2/3 of those years. Man Utd in semi final for at least one of those years. English team in a final every single year.
