The funny thing is that you think you can have sensible debate with people that are willing to destroy 5g masts because they think it causes coronavirus.

If you listen to their reason(s), then one can counter their reasoning with facts/science. That;s more likely to be productive than the opposite.

please do try to respect the views of those that do.

Why should such absolute, batshiiiiiit craziness be respected?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Galileo & Copernicus suffered because of people like you.
Even if you think their idea is crazy, you should allow people to state their views and who knows, you can learn a thing or two from them.

Worst and most erroneous comment in JA606 history.

Hard line conspiracy theorists have no time for reason, facts and science. If they did they wouldn’t be conspiracy theorists.

Care to explain why the laugh emoji?
Unless probably, you don't know anything about those 2 I mentioned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Galileo and Capernicus were persecuted as they went against the church. Not remotely similar to crazy conspiracy theories made up by John the factory worker.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A better way to put it would be thus:
Their theory was against the popular paradigm at the time.
Society then were intollerant of any views outside what was considered mainstream. Just like some posters on here who are often too quick to shoot down views/opinions that's not mainstream today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but then that would suggest that crazy stupid conspiracy theories should be debated and given time and respect, when in reality they should be laughed at and harshly put down so that gullible people don't latch on to them.

Having a different opinion is fine. Having a stupid crazy opinion is stupid and crazy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its a scienyific approach. The law of probability suggests that a small percentage of crazy stupid theories turn out to actually be factual. In fact, a lot of truths and facts throughout history started with a crazy stupid theory, only to be found to be factual.

If this had been the case and all theories are shut down and stopped from spreading like you say, all these facts would never have seen the light of day.

Is it better to have 1000 guilty people go free or one innocent person punished? Is it better to have 1000 crazy theories if one of them is right than to have no theories at all, in which case you have zero correct theories.

The qualification that the theory must not sound crazy and stupid from the very start is one that no conspiracy theory can meet, or will really struggle to meet.

You might be correct.
But I still think it's better to listen to those with opposing views even if their views/opinion is absurd.

Btw OP, how does it feel backing a complete clown like Boris now after the absolute shiiitshow he's infested on this country with the handling of the virus eh?

I suspect he feels really glad he didn’t back Corbyn because it would be far worse.

No matter how much you keep knocking the current Government you know fully well how bad the alternative was.

We articulated but flawed I feel.

The implication is that the crazy theories have no negative impact. If this were true I'd be right on board, however we only have to look at the anti-vax movement to see how very real damage can be done by crazy theories.

There's no need to 'shut down all theories' but it is only reasonable, considering the proliferation of them on the internet, to subject them to reasonable logical thought processes and some level of fact-checking.

posted on 3/4/20

And these theories were shut down, but the weight of evidence and knowledge allowed for them to be proven correct. This is not the case in 99.009% of batshiiiiiiit crazy theories, and why the idea that they should all be treat with respect because the 0.001% should have been is monumentally stupid.

It isn't stupid. Its spot on and scientific.

They should all be respected until disproven. There is no evidence that waves can create a virus so this theory is disproven and you are free to ridicule it.

However, that doesn't mean you should dismiss the next one out of hand. Only until its disproven either scientifically or via critical thought.

The world being round was a conspiracy theory for hundreds of years you know.

Depends on the theory I guess, it might be the government, health officials, or the scientific community. Though we should all be responsible for critiquing what we read online to some extent. It's just as easy to find genuine research as it is to read something on Facebook.

Exactly. Not only that but you're getting facts to form your own opinion rather than some other persons opinion who may be basing it on lies and misconceptions.

Easy to say that now when you already know the truth. The theory doesn't seem crazy to you now.

Take a look at Flat earthers. Take a look at the sky is fake people. They look crazy and insane.

Well, that's what Galileo looked like. The world is round was as crazy as can be at that time. Gravity had not been discovered, so if its round we should fall off the earth when we are at the bottom.

The earth was found to be round by Pythagoras in 500BC.
