Is it not possible for clubs to furlough the playing staff?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You have to have the employees permission to furlough.

And they are then not allowed to do any work for the business.

So yes it’s possible but completely impractical.

I wonder how many of these furloughed staff will be secretly working from home.

One gets caught and the business loses everything.

Some will try though

It would be impossible to tell unless you got a whistleblower.

Can’t upset the millionaire footballers who have used their skills to attain that position and salary.

However other people with vital skills and experience can be subbe dan by the tax payers.

There’s that. Mobile phone records. E mail trails. Business phone records.

Worth the risk? I doubt it.

Indefensible

If Liverpool paid all 200 for a year it would cost about £3,000,000
And I'm led to believe that the decision is to protect the business.
Comparatively its peanuts.

£3m a year is a lot. But when average players wage bill for a PL club is about £50m. Why not ask for a hold on some players wages to ensure the less well paid, get paid!

I could imagine a director furloughing a wife(the only case i could see it happening) who is employed, couldn't imagine you could do it to yourself and still issue dividends and If you tried to do it to normal employees it would need a vow of secrecy and compliance from employee and at least 50 percent of wages paid under the table if they would even be in slightest bit tempted. But by that point an employee would have so much dirt on you, you cant ever sack them or give them a crap pay rise.

Of course I'm not sure., it's a guess. I figured they would be a few on minimum wage and then going up from there. Make it a couple of million more if you want.

Agreed

The benefit at maximum is circa £2,875 per month per employee and for 3 months.

If they’ve just done it this week then for 200 employees over 8 weeks it’s a benefit of £1,060,000 at a maximum assuming they earn over £37,500 per annum. If they earn less the benefit is less.
