the only point is shouldnt just be footballers but yeah the rich should be doing this already off their own backs, sad that they have to even be asked.

"Derby player-coach Rooney questioned the timing of the Premier League's proposed wage cuts when top-flight captains were already in discussions as to how they could set up a fund that would go to a charitable cause, most likely the NHS."
It’s not a 30% pay cut though.

I understand players may be feeling narked about how it’s been handled but two things
1 you’ve got players like Rashford and Mata being proactive and setting the example. Things are happening very quickly at the moment, and I see no reason why the majority of highly paid PL players could not have acted sooner themselves
2 secondly they are in the public spotlight, so comments about others rich people’ is just whataboutery imo. The actions of football players were always going to draw more attention than that of largely faceless elites, as they do normally.

Rather see the 30% going directly to the nhs than 200m in taxes which will water down the actual effectiveness of the money

Do what Utd players have agreed and send it directly where its required. I'm sure players who can afford it would agree to that.
Personally I've found it quite dispiriting how society has turned against the exceptionally talented, and footballers in particular, during this crisis. I can't help but wonder if this is happening in other countries as well, or if it's just a British thing?
I can only assume that once all this is over, these people won't be watching football, going to the cinema, buying albums or going to concerts, and will instead be donating the money they would have spent on these frivolities to charities or to the NHS.

The points they make is, if they get paid less they pay less tax. So they rather keep full pay and then pay to charity or NHS directly and pay full taxes. Not that difficult.
My heart bleeds for those super rich players
They are the least deserving members of society of such a handsome wage, when their trade and skills will not save lives or improve lives and improve health. Nurses, doctors, teachers, and paramedics and the like deserve to be the ones with such salaries.
For all that time, we have been watching a society where people who sing, kick a ball, talk garbage for hours - like presenters, and any TV made "personality", get accolade and lots of financial rewards.
Now that COVID-19 is coming after us and would probably kill us, if we didn't have nurses, doctors etc, we are praising like the two faced people that we have been
Now we know which profession really should be rewarded and are the most important ones for the society.
