You don't know what he will be paying.

Picking à famous name out of a hat and wanting the press, fans, football fans on here to start a hue and cry, to get him ragged by the media doesn't reflect well on you Jim.

There are plenty of billionaires in the UK,, we could get a list up and harasss them all.

He gives more to charity and pays more tax than I earn in 10 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s also avoided paying more tax than you’ve paid in ten years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My limited (admittedly) understanding, is that he pays tax in each of the 20 countries that the races take place. As do his fellow drivers. He is basically travelling 9 months every year. For the other 3 months he pays taxes in the UK because that's where his emplyers factory is based. U think I am being accurate but maybe Toto Wolff knows more than humble little me

picking a name out of a hat?

the current media furore is based on sport stars contributions.

is it not fair to ask why britians highest earning sports star isn't being asked to take a pay cut? contribute money? why he isn't be called out by the government?

especially taking into account his tax behavior.

you morons can't seem to get that simple link, its not a name out of hat at all, its Britains highest earning sports star.

Yup. If we're going to do this let's do it right.

This post stinks of the politics of envy. I know everyone's struggling atm but singling out individuals is pointless. I'm not a fan of Gary Lineker usually but he's right about people calling out footballers and ignoring CEO's, bankers, Hollywood and rest of the super wealthy. I'm sure loads of them have given a lot anyway but don't feel the need to publicise it or want a pat on the back for it. Lewis Hamilton might have donated millions already for all you know.

posted on 5/4/20

Didn't he move to tax haven Switzerland? Or did he ditch that, to move to tax haven Monaco?

Regardless of where the weird facker is, he shouldn't be hounded through the media for a donation. Footballers shouldn't be singled out either. No one should be forced to donate.

posted on 5/4/20

But he’s not paying his full tax contributions on his earnings as he resides in Monaco to deliberately avoid paying it.

A pay cut to protect Mercedes? I don't get that part.

Contribute money? Sure that'd be nice. Hopefully he will.

Called out by the government? Where does this end - the Queen is a heck of a lot richer, she should cough up..

Yeah he's probably taxed on his basic paltry wage he receives for racing in that country. The other 90% of his income which comprises of bonuses, commission and royalties, gets shifted over to his company based In Monaco

Government aren’t gonna call out people avoiding tax.

this is just wrong on so many levels.

do footballers pay tax to Spain when they play a CL game in Spain?

he lives in Monaco to avoid any income tax on his contract, the location of his employer is completely irrelevant.

the whole sport of f1 is a tax avoidance scheme. take these figures from 2016

It paid just $8.5m in taxes in 2016, up from $6.1m a year earlier. Its pre-tax profits totalled $450.3m ($463.6m) in 2016.

To make a difference you need to dismantle the systems and administrations that create these individual anomalies, rather than go after the few individual anomalies who can benefit from them.

This is usually through the ballot box, in a democracy.

Seriously ask yourself, am I part of the solution or am I part of the problem?

You will feel much better and calmer if you did and you wouldn't get so wound up by the actions of a few wealthy people like... Lewis Hamilton, for example.

He doesn't live in the UK so he's not liable for UK tax, technically he's not avoiding anything. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of it he's still contributed more to charity than 99% of people do.

Exactly. The wage cut is to protect clubs, the sport as a whole.

My understanding was that Hancock was asked the question and he answered it. You're making out as if there's some government campaign to get footballers to pay for the NHS.

It was footballers not sportstars, and it was in general. People weren't hounding Mo Salah for example. Where are your gripes against other drivers. A pathetic article on the coat tails of the footballers. Let's spend next week doing pop stars, and then the week after actors.

avoiding it would be putting earnings in tax avoidance schemes or whatever instead paying tax on it. He's not due to pay any income tax so he's not avoiding anything.

actually this all started simply because I genuinely wondered why our biggest earner wasn't being mentioned anywhere by anyone.

then with all the counter arguments raised to the OP I have discovered via google what a little cretin he actually is.
