avoiding it would be putting earnings in tax avoidance schemes or whatever instead paying tax on it. He's not due to pay any income tax so he's not avoiding anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he's been caught doing that very thing.

That was about avoiding taxes for a private jet, I'm talking about income tax so not the same thing. Tax avoidance is legal and they should close down the loopholes and schemes, if there's legal ways for people so save millions of pounds of course they'll use it.
But we aren’t talking about tax avoidance in the legal sense. We are talking about it in the literal sense. He’s decided to reside in Monaco because it’s a tax haven. He’s avoiding paying his tax contributions, whether it be in the UK or elsewhere, by doing so. Unless you’re telling me it’s just a coincidence he happens to reside in a tax haven.

We tried that. Then we were told ‘yeah but Jeremy Corbyn’.
Lewis Hamilton actually has Monegasque family roots.
Yes he's living there for tax reasons, also lifestyle as well I guess, it's a beautiful place and he saves 20m+ a year so it's a no brainer in a lot of ways.

Anyone know how much Cliff Richard is donating?
Or Nick 'DIY S.O.S.' Knowles?
Or that woman who was the voice of the Cadbury's Bunny in the 80s?

He wouldn’t need to if successive Labour, Tory/LIbDem governments had done a better jobs of clamping down on corporation tax avoidance.

Funny, that was on the table in the last election...

Yea, but it’s hardly a policy that swings an election vote...

I find the “what he/she’s doing is technically legal” argument when applied in cases of actions that are quite clearly unethical quite abhorrent, tbh.
Because the argument then basically becomes “it is morally acceptable to do anything that is within the law”.

It’s just whataboutery.
Exactly
Creating a shell company on the Isle of Wight to lease your own jet back to yourself and get a 3.3m pound VAT refund is just ridiculous.
Getting a refund from the same government you avoid paying any tax too
And next week we will take on Adele.
I know little about her, but she's rich.
By the way Jim, I'm not actually a moron, do you always resort to name calling?

It's tax avoidance vs tax evasion. Avoidance is frowned upon and morally questionable, but not illegal. Tax evasion is going to illegal measures to avoid paying taxation. One of the few things I remember from my accounting degree
merry, but we are aware of that. The issue is when the legality is brought up to defend the action.

Yes you do. Because we don't know how they behave in private.
Most people thought Jimmy Saville was a good guy for years.
I'm sure the opposite applies.
The government should scrap HS2, and put that money into dealing with this pandemic. We won't be needing it in a post-covid19 UK anyway, we never did.
Also, apparently the HS2 contractors have been working during the lockdown.
