I believe philanthropy is far bigger in the US

It has been demonstrated in several studies that the concept of philanthropic giving doesn’t translate to practice.
The people who give the highest proportions of their disposable incomes to charitable causes are society’s poorest, followed by the middle classes.

It’s great in principle. It doesn’t actually happen in practice though.

Did you know that if you had £1bn (1000 x 1m) and you spent £10,000 EVERY DAY, it would take you 274 years to spend it all
The magnitude of difference between billion and million can be illustrated with this example of the time scale: A million seconds is 12 days. A billion seconds is 31 years. A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.
