Today's chart music is totally crap and won't stand the test of time. Songs from the 60s, 70s 80, 90s are still remembered and played today. Today's pop won't be remembered in just 10 years time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's what they were saying in the 80s and 90s.
But the teens and early 20s of today will remember the current music in 10 years, 20, 30, 40 years. They will get nostalgic for it like people have gotten nostalgic for 80s and 90s crap. And it will be popular again.

They may get nostalgic for it, but no way will future generations rate this auto tune nonsense.

Due to money, internet, and reality TV, the industry has suffered. The older generation disliking modern music narrative was never going to go on forever.

They do though.

nope, I implied that he's now just churning out tedious egotistical crap. it's now more about selling trainers rather than the music.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clearly going on his reputation rather than his music... what about “Jesus is king” is egotistical? It’s the complete opposite

Kanye plays people like absolute mugs ... yes, he comes out with stuff to get people riled... but the music itself is self reflective and self deprecating

Depends on your definition of mainstream I guess but there's plenty of good music that's not hard to find.

Anderson Paak for starters, brilliant and very popular.

It’s also hard to be original. All the genres have been done. Think of the sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and you’ll see that the sounds were fresh.

Rock n Roll
Funk / soft rock
Punk / electric synth
Techno/pop

More recently, RnB

But everything now sounds like it could’ve been released at any point over the last 20 years. It’s all samey samey - at least that’s my impression.

Maybe I’m getting old but by and large, I only listen to pre 2000 stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rnb by large is mostly crap. There are some great records in the genre but mostly drowned by fairly repetitive crap.

Edm generally finds new ways to be creative, but it a true most has been done before, to be genuinely groundbreaking is pretty dam rare.

Little Dark Age is a great album. They had a few dodgy ones after their debut (which was great also) but Little Dark Age is definitely a return to form for me

Yeah that's why I was surprised they were still going. First album was good, but the ones that followed were awful in my opinion. Might give their new stuff a go, but dont have high expectations for it.

Monster Truck have a few decent albums for those who like rock music.

Greta Van Fleet are decent too, for those who like Les Zeppelin.

RnB is crap! 🤣 Totally agree Baz.

EDM? Are feckin you American? Dance music lad.

To be honest all that scene is stale as well. Sick of house which nowadays is disco, techno has gone minimal or house, which is gash and there ain't enough tech house out there. Don't get me started on the commercial sheet, you can keep that radio fodder.

However the last chemical brothers album no geography was the best dance album I've heard in about 10 years, it's brilliant. Hip hop, indie and rock died 15 years ago for me. Little snippets here and there, but nothing groundbreaking or game changing, that why the oldies remain the best. Plus another man's music is another man's noise. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For those craving indie/rock... check out a band called carseat headrest.... rubbish name, some great tunes.

For those hankering after a more classic britpop sound, Catfish and the Bottlemen

New album out May 1. I heard the single off it, they're going in an interesting direction for sure.

I'll defend minimal techno and disco house

Techno and house have changed a lot. I cant even really get into what i thought was good like 6 years ago when i was still at uni

Claptone and Bicep are both worth a listen for original music
