free-to-air games, is that only games that sky/bt don't already have rights to? all games? or only games even the free tv channels think will have a large enough audience?

to be honest, i'm not sure it's a good idea, especially if it is every game, I mean, who has time to sit at home watching football all day?

posted on 25/4/20

Sky, BT and a lesser extent Amazon have the rights to ALL premier league games. They have competition exclusivity, so if the PL suddenly makes another 20-30 games available for free-to-air they’ll go to Sky and BT.

It’s stupid that they don’t already have the 3pm KO rights to be honest. Hope it sets a precedent for all PL games to be aired on TV in England.

As much as I miss football, I have been on 20% pay cut since last month. The company I work for will have 300 head count on bench as client's ramp down. If lock down for business extend for a few months, we'll be in big trouble. I'd be fuming if this is what Boris' priority and he thinks we'll be happy in lock down as long as football is on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tell me about it mate , I'm getting made redundant this coming Thursday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So sorry to hear. The same might happen to me if it's going on. The longer this lock down, the more I wish they just cancel the season so we can focus on other important things.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How exactly is focus being taken away from other matters, by football authorities looking at football matters?🤔

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The decision is not on them isn’t it? Government need to review if it’s safe. Then other department will be involve to support if any football will be played
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And there will be governmental departments, digital media and sport, that will focus on this.
Like other departments that have their individual portfolio.
Trying to somehow make out that decisions made to bring back football will leave other areas of governement vulnerable is palpable nonsense.
This governement has already displayed it complete ineptitude over the last few months, and the idea that investigating a return to sporting events is going to compound this, is just silly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so which department will be responsible for players and staff’s heath and safety? What are they doing at the moment? Will the prime minister need to approve the plan after discuss with cabinet or just let the department carry the plan itself?

Madness if true. I just can’t see it happening. All it takes is one player or coach to catch covid19

Nothing definitive here, they are just doing their jobs and being seen to be exploring all potential courses of action, this will be one option out of many. This does not mean it will happen, only it may happen.

For me, the season can not be completed fairly under this plan, once a competition is suspended, the rules changed part way through and not completed within accordance of the rules set out, it can not remain right and proper.

The Dutch have taken the common sense approach, why risk trying to complete and already improper season. Unfortunately, the money involved in the PL, means the money men will be pushing for it to end, even though it has lost lost its integrity.

Whatever happens, the season has lost all meaning.

It's all boring now in fairness as it's then same rhetoric from the same folk a hundred times over. You could script most of the threads about seasons ending.

There'll be 3 Spurs fans advocating voiding it, one Man United fan agreeing, one Man United fan disagreeing and one Man United fan on the fence, at least half a dozen Liverpool fans staunchly arguing why it won't be voided, regular guest appearances from Wolves, Leeds and Leicester fans, me banging the non league drum, and Billy telling insisting that whatever happens it won't ever really count any way.

The Dutch league, what about the Dutch league. 😂
Anyway, it looks like we'll have football to watch within 4 or 5 weeks from Germany, and PL games a month after that.
Something to look forward to at least.

5 or 6 weeks feels like too far away for me and thats just the facking bundesliga.

If someone had told you you'd be pining to be able to watch German football at this time you'd have laughed.

Can't wait for the Bundesliga.

We shouldn’t even be thinking about restarting ( yes I want it restarted before you bring the blah blah rubbish ) atm

We should be concentrating on the getting this virus under control and protecting our key workers rather than rushing to play football.
