Man, that's terrible.

I feel a lot for his family, but my mother was estranged from that side so I never really knew him. Freaked out my brother, who did know him and who is two months older.

For the op, wait for the 2nd wave and then plenty of people you know will have had it. It will be much bigger and deadlier than this one.

My Niece and here future bro in laws have had it and likely her fella but with no symptoms. All are doing fine but they are the right side of 30.

Missus work colleague has lost a parent and several others pretty ill but we are in NJ so not really a surprise.

Christ, the numbers coming out of New York and New Jersey are terrifying. I hope you are all doing as well as can be hoped.

Sorry to hear about your cousin, that is awful at that young age.

We are fine or at least believe we are, i was rough a month ago, bit tight chested, drainage etc but no fever of cough so no idea. Luckily we live in a quiet rural county and only have 400 or so cases compared to some which have been hammered.

A couple of guys in our organisation have died from it. They were both getting on a bit but one had underlying conditions and the other apparently did not. They both worked in very public facing jobs.

Of course. The weight of historical evidence suggests that second waves are usually worse, as people behave too confidently in the belief that the danger has passed. It will also prove very difficult to shut things down again once they have been opened.

I'm in Germany and face masks will be mandatory from Monday. They don't recommend masks with filters, largely because of supply issues. However, a hepa vacuum bag between two sheets of cotton will work just fine, provided there is no fibre glass in it. I believe women's sanitary pads also work if you remove the adhesive.

I would love to be wrong, but I believe that we are nowhere near the end of this pandemic, nor its peak.

It's not going away until we have a vaccine. Not entirely. The second wave doesn't have to hit us too hard though if we can do things in stages. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Germany and America which will relax things before us.

I'm very nervous here. People are not exactly respecting the 2m distances in public. We will be forced back into a harder lockdown imo.

Several friends of mine have had it. One sadly passed away. She had blood cancer, so was particularly vulnerable.

Actually I fibbed, I work in London but live up North and have been hone for 5/6 weeks. Three people died where I work but two different departments and one student (who was a nurse). Didn’t know them so it slipped my mind.

Sad to hear about people’s losses! You get desensitised when it is just number on the tv everyday. Brings it home. I can’t things have been too bad in my neck of the woods

One of my band mates works as a music therapist. She messaged our group chat a couple of weeks ago to say some of her patients had died.

One of work colleagues neighbour has had it. Early 20s. Gym bunny. Hospitalised for 4 days on oxygen. Has had to keep an oxygen machine with her even at home, because her lungs still keep packing up.

Scary sh/t really.

A family I know have all had it, mum, dad and both kids. The mum is a key worker in childcare looking after kids of NHS staff. Someone up the road from me told my wife their husband has just come out of hospital with it. A relative of a girl my daughter went to a youth club with died from it.

Wont happen imo. Lockdown is about making sure we dont get too many poepl going into hospital at one time, not about us not getting it. As numbers are coming down hospitals are largely coping at the moment. It was on the news that ITU beds are less than 50% full so no need to tighten the lockdown.

viruses usually lose virulence as time goes by

are you thinking the 2nd wave will be worse because that's what happened with the spanish flu ?

there are reasons why the 2nd wave of that was so bad that arent replicated now (end of WWI)

This is interesting real data that came out of California.
It's probably the same in other places too
