What happened to that comp? What were the qualification rules as City didnt win the European or UEFA cup the year before?

City won the FA Cup in 1969. The CWC was a comp for whoever won their domestic cup comp.

They should have had another competition for the teams who won the Cup Winners' Cup in their respective confederations. A kind of Cup Winners' Cup Winners' Cup.

It was a good competition, you actually had to have won something to be in it.

Aaaah. Starting to make sense why it doesn't exist anymore.

Pretty sure it’s the only UEFA competition where English clubs have actually won it more times than any of their European counterparts. Interesting old competition and City has some great players back then.

That City team was really good. Won lots of stuff between 1968 and 1970.

Neither Juventus, Barcelona or Liverpool had won a European trophy in 1970.

Just for the history buffs out there.

Were they City's last trophies, until the Lottery win?

Not really.
We won the League Cup after that in 1976.

Was a truly great team with a fantastic manager. Could still name most of the players now, something that you couldn't say for the team a decade or so later. Although that may have been a concerted effort to forget most of them.

Possibly the last (only???) time a team with only English players with an English manager won a European trophy? Not even a Scotsman in sight if memory serves.
