Though making broad generalizations like that is not helpful that statement is patently ridiculous. The left is traditionally the 'side' of worker's groups and unions - people who dedicated their lives to making the lives of the majority of residents - citizens or no - better.
Ask yourself this - why are you really so bothered about immigrants getting a little help? It would be helpful before you answer if you understood the reality behind economic migrants, and their contribution to the economy. Because using the line that they're somehow a drain is way off the mark.

In regard to support for undocumented immigrants, around 10% percent of California's workforce are undocumented immigrants.
Who contributed over $2.5bn in taxes in 2019 alone.
As they are ineligible to claim anything from the $2.2 trillion stimulus package approved by Congress, some humanitarian aid during a time of a global pandemic isn't going to bankrupt California and may go some way to save some lives/livelihoods.

The government have failed every step of the way.
Slow with the lockdown - actually announcing which day the pubs would shut which means a load of people went for one last pizz up.
Cheltenham as mentioned above, and other sporting events planned..
This slow response was, I feel, calculated to talk about doing a lot, but in fact did very little which plays into the herd immunity plan..
We still don’t have mandated checks at airports nor enforced quarantine. There are hundreds of airport hotels available for this to happen.
Ignoring the outcomes from the Cygnus study that outlined the NHS would collapse in the face of a pandemic. Government did nothing in that for 4 years because pursuing Brexit was more important.
With Brexit being a political ideology the government completely ignored the U.K. being invited to a EU wide procurement programme for medical equipment including PPE.
Lying about their being a logistical issue in delivering PPE - the PPE doesn’t exist. There are at this moment hundreds if not thousands of delivery drivers on furlough. Completely crazy to blame logistics - this is the same government that didn’t know “the importance of Dover” when trying to deliver Brexit.
Actually announcing that families of the NHS staff dying doing their jobs will be getting £60k - this is basically hush money.
Not having PPE and resulting in deaths means corporate manslaughter in the business world. Someone in government have done the sums on that £60k

UK covid-19 deaths per capita are the 4th highest in the world. Which is astonishing when you consider that :
- it is an island nation
- had weeks of pre-alert
- decided not to partake in procurement with the EU due to political expediency.
It is a failing from the powers that be.

His administration has brought in a raft of policies to prevent undocumented immigrants from citizenship.

It's a process, and as it should be. If we just granted amnesty to anyone who crossed the border, then the floodgates would open up.
If you meet the criteria, then we will welcome you with open arms.
Nobody is entitled to be a part of the United States except those who are citizens. We also have the right to determine who should be a citizen of the country...and the ones we will welcome are those who actually obey our immigration laws
