I think to get around the legalities it's called 'safe seating' at the moment.

Safe standing is illegal until the law is changed.

Predominately fans will still be expected to sit but in these designated areas more discretion can be exercised.

Safe standing is better than what's going on right now. Liverpool games there's 70k people standing.

Exactly. They’ve been given permission to install the rail seating but can’t have them in the standing position until the government changes the rules.

So, what happens at WHL? You have safe standing, but legally you’re not allowed to stand, so it’s called safe seating but people stand anyway?

Yes so we have them but they are locked in the seat position ( like what Dortmund have to do for European games ).

Obviously fans still stand but legally aren’t allowed and stewards still come round asking people to sit.

Is standing to celebrate legal?

posted on 29/4/20

This should've been campaigned for years ago but better late than never because it'll be brilliant once it's properly up and running and implemented.

It's a shame that it's in J-Stand though, it should've been in SERS but I can't complain too much.

1,500 is hopefully just the beginning and it'll eventually expand and take place in other parts of the ground. We have to have it in the Stretford End.

No standing is while the game is on.

True but that's more like a premier league ground. Pity about the team.

This might be a stupid question but does this increase OT’s capacity now?

--------------------------------------------

No I wouldn't think so.

The capacity was already down anyway on what it was a year or two ago due to the expansion to the disabled section.

No it’s based on the 1 for 1 model unlike Dortmund who use a 1 for 1.5 iirc

That’s interesting, I didn’t know they did that at Dortmund.

Not saying the atmosphere is bad or anything but will improve it, sell the tickets cheaper and fill it with young people who'll sing the whole way through.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, the atmosphere is terrible.

It absolutely doesn’t compare to even the mid-nineties when I started going.

That isn’t about the seating as much as it is about the people in the ground. Working class Mancs have been replaced by tourists, daytrippers and, comfortably worst of all, middle class families from the suburbs and beyond.

Will the cost of a rail seat season ticket in the J Stand become cheaper than it was as a fully seated season ticket?

Match tickets in the old days were always cheaper on the terraces than in the stands.

You're right
. When my girlfriend started to come, not only did I have to buy two tickets, but for seats too.

Under Ole its getting better.

The atmosphere at the last game vs City was brilliant. Stood for most of the game ... and with that ending by SMcT... The scenes.

---------------------------------------------

For domestic games Dortmund at full capacity have an attendance of around 80,000 but as all seater for UEFA competitions SIP is around 67,000.

No reason why it should be.
It's costing United money to remove the seats and install the rail seating. It's also a matter of choice.
Also you need slightly more policing and stewardimg to prevent over crowding.
It's really just a matter of personal preference.

We've joined the membership to apply for the singing section this year..

Wanted to move seats to the Stretford but we had to give up our current seats and apply again, which seemed strange to me?
