I do find it funny when people slag off social media on ja606, a social media website.

Also, going on holiday and lying by a pool/beach doesn't make anyone lazy or uncultured. Sometimes it's nice just to have a break. When I go away I tend to combine pool days with seeing some of the local history and landmarks as well as enjoying some of the local food and drink.

I have no issue with that. It’s the sit by the pool and eat at mcd’s or English pub types. What’s the point in them going abroad?

Its like Irish folk when they go abroad. The first place they look for is the Irish bar. I mean why?

I love exploring places when I go abroad but sitting on the beach with some cocktails and reading a book is very very chilled too. Especially when your job is hectic AF

It’s natural for most cultures, to be fair. Humans are social animals, so they’ll naturally gravitate to what is most familiar - even if travelling to see different cultures.

I'll always stay away from English restaurants etc when I'm away, sampling the local cuisine but I'll still choose an Irish bar as that's where all the young locals go to. Traditional bars will be mostly old men.

I look for the Welsh bar. I get a lot of miles in that day!

Depends where you go, I suppose. English restaurants don’t seem to be common place outside of the traditional main tourist attractions such as the Greek islands and parts of Spain.

The language barrier is obviously a factor for many as well. You’ll find more people speaking English in an Ifish bar than local bars and restaurants, on average.

There is a little bit of travel snobbery at play here as well I think.

Whilst I couldn't sit round the pool for a whole two weeks I do go on holiday to have a break, relax, have a few drinks and a laugh. Part of that experience is going to new places but part of that experience is also doing it in more familiar surrounding but with the added bonus of sunshine.

I'm pretty sure local Spanish/Greek/Cyptiot/Turkish.etc. girls don't hang out in Irish bars on the strip in holiday resorts drinking goldfish bowls with their tats out to get hassled and fingered by drunk spotty English tw_ats.

The 'traditional' local bar sounds a lot more pleasant to be at to me.

Diafol, yep there is that, as well as equating the 18-30’s stereotype with large swathes of British holiday makers. The silly thing is that it’s not something that is unique to the British anyway. Think of places like Cancun, as an example, that are full of America spring breakers, and they also, among other destinations, attract a lot of Central, South and North Americans that go on holiday for partying.

Yeah I don't go to holiday resorts. If I want to see British people and eat British food, I'll stay at home. Although I do understand some people go for the sun, that's not for me.

So I'll do traditional resturants and then hit Irish pubs where the younger locals go.

The price of a cruise holiday is going to have to come way down to entice anyone to get on one after all that's happened.

I’m gonna wait till I’m 80 years old and find the idea of talking about Coronation street spoilers and what caravan to buy before I go on a cruise or else I’ll feel like I’m too young.

I do t really class this as social media. It’s a forum, which were around before social media was invented. Even if by some pedantic definition it’s nothing like twitter or face book, the worst of social media.
