Masks only minimise the chances of you passing it on to others which helps as long as loads ain’t buying medical grade ones depriving the medical staff of them
I only use the tube to go to spurs if my brother in law fancies going on a session as he normally drives
Hope you’re well sandy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I understand the point about masks restricting transmission. I don't buy it 100% though.
If I had to walk through a COVID ward, i'd much rather wear a mask than not. And I'm sure that all of the scientists giving us advice on masks would do the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What evidence do you have to back your feeling up? If you or scientists were on a COVID ward you would be asking for a plastic visor mask at the very least, if not a full FFP3 mask to prevent transmission to you. Or the Uni of Southampton made PerSo mask, which uses a filter and pump to clean air before it is breathed in. Walking on a COVID ward is different to walking amongst the general public, and I don’t know why you’d feel protected in something that healthcare workers don’t feel protected in (a surgical mask, designed for short procedures, with little evidence or expert opinion it prevents transmission to the user).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a feeling.
I don't need any evidence to back it up
Everything else in your post is extraneous.
I simply have an example...If you had to walk though a COVID ward without any protection or just with a simple mask?
I'd definitely prefer to have a mask. Most would.
The government advice will change subtly in the coming weeks. That's also just my opinion. We shall see.
Fair enough, I understand its just your feeling. And yeah I can understand the psychological effect of wearing something, anything over your mouth and nose but i thought it worth challenging/being devil’s advocate. Mind I at all don’t disagree with any effort to increase masks in public spaces.
I personally just wouldn’t feel safe with either New Magnum, wearing a mask like that would just feel like a useless front pretending to protect me if I was on a COVID ward. I would be equally afraid/anxious coming out of the ward if I was wearing just a surgical mask as I would be without one, maybe is a better way of putting it.
Thankfully I drive everywhere. I drive to work and I drive everywhere else. Only time I use the tube is if I’m going for a night out somewhere in central London and want a drink. Apart from that, I won’t be using the tube anyway so don’t bother me
People keep working from home. I dont see a problem in that. Our business is already talking about people never again having to come back to the office. This means that only the ones who cant work from home go to work. Pollution and congestion will be down significantly. This virus has shown us that at least.
I don't need government advice to tell me what to do. I have a brain so I know exactly what I need to do during this pandemic.
What I do want from the government is some transparency when it comes to data, lockdown timetable and true reporting of testing.

Good for you. Unfortunately a lot of people need telling what to do and I would imagine the government cater for them rather than you.

In your scenario, you would arguably put yourself at more risk wearing the mask. It would be the patients in the ward thst should be wearing them, seeing as masks are proven to be effective in stopping the wearer passing the virus. Seems abit counter productive you wearing one and then walking through a ward with infected people. The risk in you catching it would be higher as you would possibly touch your face more whilst wearing the mask.

Based on what?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Based on the fact that the company I work for made the 300-400 office staff from our site work from home along with office staff from other sites plus the head office down South and they are talking about redundancies.
I dare say they’ll be looking at how long people actually work when at home, doubt very much everyone has worked a full day.
If people are more productive working from home then it’s better for the company
Since me and my team have been working from home, I'd say performance has probably gone up if anything. People don't quite get the balance right yet as they tend to log on earlier and tend to have fewer breaks. Get that right and I think WFH can be as productive, if not more.

It does when you see what goes off in the office block, there’s many of them doing very little when they’re in the office never mind at home!
I think in the grand scheme of things this situation has given the company an excuse to sort it out and about time too!
Our manager was saying there’s going to be a whole new way of working coming out of this and some very sad people.
