If no football can be played should just relegate the 6 clubs and therefore avoid the need for play offs in the championship.

The numbers will soon change if clubs are told 3 will be relegated football or no football. I bet it would become a lot safer to play for the bottom three all of a sudden

Only question now is who are we all going to support.

Personally I'm going Fortuna Duesseldorf as they have Rosler in charge so there is at least a link to leeds there.

Yeah, the 'concern' from PL doctors has come from just 4 clubs according to the Telegraph.

Premier League clubs fear doctor survey is being exploited to stall return
Responses to the letter came from just four clubs rather than anything resembling a majority

Premier League clubs are concerned that a routine request to first-team doctors for questions over hygiene and medical protocols around Covid-19 has been used against the league in an attempt to undermine the resumption of the season.

The Premier League is understood to have issued a document that was sent to all clubs asking for doctors to respond with questions over procedure and wider-ranging inquiries about medical liability which was then collated to be answered in detail. The head of the Premier League Doctors’ Group, Zaf Iqbal, of Crystal Palace, formerly a Liverpool first-team doctor, is expected to work through the questions in consultation with government experts to produce guidelines on any issues not already covered.

The Premier League, as well as at some clubs, are now concerned that this question and answer exchange has been leaked with the intention of it being presented in some quarters as doctors at Premier League clubs being fearful about the season resuming.

It is understood that the only responses to the letter, sent by Premier League medical advisor Mark Gillett and director of football Richard Garlick, came from just four clubs.

There is a major split in the Premier League between the bottom six clubs and the rest, with those in the final six places resisting attempts to start the season again. They have so far done so on the basis that they do not want to play the remaining games on neutral grounds, as per the Premier League’s Project Restart plan. They have also asked that relegation be abolished for this season, a measure that the other 14 – as well as broadcast partners – have told them is impossible.

The top 14 clubs want to begin training in groups on May 18 with a return to action in the season tentatively scheduled for between June 8 and June 12. The league only needs 14 votes to push through a majority vote but feels it must have all 20 clubs in full support to overcome the obvious challenges to playing in the coronavirus pandemic

What if Norwich or Brighton just so happen to suffer a breakout of covid forcing all play to stop?

They do need to be told that bottom three will go down no matter what.

Yep, crisis over, let's get back to normality, footie, pubs, cafes etc.

We are down to just a couple of hundred a day dying now.

Well, when I say a couple of hundred, I mean 649 deaths

There just asking for a player or players to catch it. Of course the bottom 6 want to stay in the league. Using the neutral ground excuse and then adding no relegation to it says it all. So what, that's life and business at the end of the day. I wish my team had played better but I couldn't moan if we were relegated. By and large we've made so many of the same mistakes in matches we've deserved it.

Forcing players to play on when there heads probably aren't even there or fearful of contagion is a whole other matter. Another 600 plus died in the last 24 hours.

Even if the season continued is anybody interested?

In don't know why death tolls are relevant here on this football thread on a football forum.

Coming on a football forum to castigate posters for discussing football and taking them on a guilt trip by making statements that imply they don't care about people dying.

This is not a rare phenomenon. Its actually being discussed across the internet right now.

Preachers are showing up on sports forums, science forums, and basically everywhere on the internet to tell people discussing that topic that they are doing the wrong thing. Then they jump on the next thread and discuss the exact same thing. It only applies when they don't agree and inky wrong when others do it.

Doesn't make sense at all. Football will return in July if possible and we all hope 649 people won't be dying per day by then. We all hope it will be zero. Don't assume you care about this more than anyone else.

649 is a lot of people, way too many. This is a 50% drop from the peak of of over 1,200 per day on April 21 and us part of a downward trend that began on April 23.

I have confidence that those that are planning the resumption of all facets of life is using this data to project when the numbers will fall to manageable levels and plan the safe resumption of various facets of life accordingly.

Belarus must have a good system in regards to football. They've got their Premier League (16 teams), division 1 (14 teams), division 2 (22 teams), reserve league (16 teams) and women's league (8 teams) all running.

Super cup played, cup 1/4's (2 legs) and semi's (2 legs) also successfully completed.

Hopefully it will continue smoothly.

I don't have that confidence. I know there has to be a balance between the economy and life.
I don't have confidence that the right decisions will be made. The PM is a liar, and has already made poor decisions on the virus, hence the most deaths in Europe.

You can’t prove that we have had the most deaths in Europe because all countries count Covid deaths differently. We are including care homes and some aren’t.

Also I would argue Belgium have the true worst death rate due to the fact deaths per million people are much much higher.

As for the footy. I’m still not sure we will get things sorted over here. The season, according to FA rules, has to end by 1st June and as yet they haven’t changed this. EFL rules say whatever the team positions are at the season end will determine promotion and relegation. As it stands that’s still 01/06/20. They can’t just extend the season without changing or breaking FA rules.

Lots to happen yet before soccer goes ahead in the UK.

It is not up to the PM. There are layers of decision making that will need to occur during the decision making process. Everyone with an Internet connection needs to stop thinking they know better than the experts. It’s beyond out if control, here in the US too!

Hi Stoopo, I hope all is well with you and yours.

I have pointed out previously that FA Rules do not apply to the Prem and EFL. They are for lower leagues only.
