Footballers and their children are generally in the lower risk group. By the time games start the risk of catching CV will be even lower. It is on the decline and the new antibody test should enhance safety even more.

Doesn`t matter if they are in a low risk group, there is still a risk. What parent would want to risk anything with their children?

To what extent is young children returning to schools comparable to the return of football? I'm sure there are comparisons but I think there are more than enough divergent factors to separate the two matters. Coupling these two issues together makes little sense therefore, in my opinion.

However, I honestly don't think young children should be back in school by June 1st or football back by June 12. I think both should be pushed closer to July or 1st of July. An extra month could make a big difference. That could still happen perhaps. I don't know if there would be enough time but I don't see why not.

The R rate is now 0.24% in London. Great stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is good news, but to be aware, the Leader of Gateshead council has said his city is double that. London was hit hardest first and its easing first but the rest of the country will take time to match this good news.

Footballers play in open spaces, without regular contact between each other. This isn't true for MPs in the House of Commons. Footballers are also not in charge of running the country, fortunately.

Not really the same thing.

I'm not sending my.youngest back no way , not.unless I can get a 100 % guarantee of his safety.

With regards to football as long as everyone at the match is tested and passed clear then I don't see a problem.

I fully expect the virus to peak back up in another two weeks .

Also, the WHO and other experts have said that covid is here to stay and we will learn to live with it like HIV.

Have to make plans for the long term, no point in waiting too long because waiting doesn't actually save any lives, does it?

Numbers will go up again, as they didn't in South Korea, Germany and other countries that handled it "well" when they first loosened restrictions. That is expected and would happen no matter when restrictions were eased.
It wont go back to anything like "peak" though. Certainly not again this summer

I hope your right GT 🙏

I agree. Lots of other places are higher but it was more about how hard London was first hit and hopefully it gives other major towns and cities a lift. If we can get London to that number hopefully we can get others there soon.

And once again sandy, footballers aren't taking tests away from key workers. The NHS choose not to use the testing machines that football clubs have bought. Its not like they've stolen it from them. Why do you keep ignoring that.

This is something that every labour supporter conveniently ignores.

Edward, good for you. But commonsense should tell you that if football has to be played behind closed doors, then that should tell you it aint safe.

Every test a footballer has takes a test away from a key worker. FACT.

Germany opened up but were in a much better position and they are reviewing their release measures. Can we say that the UK are in a similar position? I don't think so but time will tell.

I still think that the lockdown was a half hearted attempt to make it look like the government cared about the loss of life and risk but I think that the reality is that they don't.
