It's still high but good to see the numbers continue to fall. Just got to hope the numbers are still falling this time next week (two weeks after restrictions eased).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not accurate , there were over 2400 new cases today , no doubt they've spread to family whom dont show symptoms they go shopping and so fourth and before you know it were back to where we were.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

2400 new cases is low. Good news.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Low

10 new cases would be considered low.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's better than 4000.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What?
Are you for real? Why is 2400 is low and what is this 4000?
A low rise shouldn't be a figure on the thousands? like 2400?
How's that acceptable?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yup don't get why 2,400 is low, it isn't. May be lower than the ridiculous high figures, but no way can it be considered low.

But not as good as 10.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True but 10 is unrealistic at this stage. The main thing is the numbers of new cases and deaths are on a steady decline.

In the context of what we have had so far it is. And that's all you can look at. In NZ 100 cases would be high. In New York 100 cases would be low. Context.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not interested in NZ or New York, I wish people wouldn`t keep doing comparisons. I am only interested in what is happening over here, and 2,400 new cases is not in any way low, it is high.

It is higher than it should ever be. We had 6000 cases on a regular basis 4 weeks ago. Now we have 2400. That is low is comparison. Facts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We still have five times as many cases as when lockdown started , so if that is your idea of low, it's not most people's. FACT.

That is lower, not low. Like me saying Spurs had a lower than usual crowd, say 40,000 as compared to 60,000. But it is not low, just lower. Low would be a crowd of 5,000 or less.

No new deaths recorded in London or south east in the last 24 hours, heading in right direction. Facts sandy brother.

Just a point for consideration which has been the analysis of "additional" deaths on a like for like annual basis which is reported as being some 60,000 above the "norm".

With Covid-19 being apparent in some 40,000 cases (est) it shows that we have experienced a further 20,000 deaths through other means such as those not receiving treatments, surgery and the like.

At what point does saving lives actually start costing lives? It can't be that far away. And that's before we get onto the economical damage and the death rates yet to come.

The IFS have indicated that for every 2% increase in unemployment there are an estimated 1m additional chronic health conditions.

I cannot help but believe that in the not too distant future we will look back and wonder why we were so blinded by science that we took our eyes completely off the ball and crippled our entire nation as we head into a recession like no other we have seen before.

It was right to close things down to prepare the NHS and it was right to protect the vulnerable by asking those with chronic conditions and the elderly to "stay safe". We have gone way beyond that over the past 4-6 weeks.

Trying to hide from a virus that won't just wander off is surely the most ridiculous idea ever thought of.

I am not happy with how this has been handled and I think that Boris and his whole government have made numerous wrong decisions that have costs lives. I also believe that there should be a huge inquest when we are through the other side, but.... at this stage, if you are looking forward, there is no point ignoring that things are improving. Why would you ignore that just so you can keep saying how bad things are? Sure we are still getting numbers we should never be getting, but literally everything is going in the right direction and when that happens, then restrictions should be gradually lifted. Just sitting there saying "this shouldn't be happening whilst x, y and z is still happening" gets you nowhere. You have to move forward and that is what the country, and the whole of the world (except Brazil who have a lunatic in charge) are starting to do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What’s the guy in Brazil doing then ? Love that part of the world by the way. Costa Rica is stunning.

That is a very real conversation that may be raised in the future, but what government would ever essentially say it is ok to lose lives to protect the economy? It would be political suicide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Completely agree but the conversation surely needs to be had. And it should be based on the longer term health implications and the additional deaths not being considered.

To tie it purely to economics would spell the end of them. Ignoring it however could equally have the same result.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

There health care system is on the brink of collapse. They have gone through 3 health care ministers in 6 weeks and all have walked due to the way the president is treating this. The guy has been on protests against city governers who are applying any kind of lock down as he says this is nothing more than a small flu. Basically he is completely focused on the economy which is failing horrifically in its own right.
When you consider where Brazil was 6 or 7 years ago, one of the fastest growing economies in the world and where it is now, it is just staggeringly sad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow that’s ridiculous. So he’s not put the country in lockdown at all ?

Just had a look, you are right. Revellers in Rio still partying and going bars etc, madness. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait for all this s** to be over and to go out partying again with friends, but it is definitely necessary for all countries to go into some sort of lockdown

One of our lads girlfriends is Argentinian and has not long returned home.

They are closing down one fortnight, opening another later and essentially going round in circles. Absolute mess and the belief among the population is to hide the state of the economy from the rest of the world.

Latest lockdown is until September with all borders closed.

Yeh Argentina and Brazil are very different to Costa Rica who are well known for protecting their environment even in normal circumstances. That’s why I love Costa Rica compared to other countries in that region. Corruption etc is non existent.
