Some transfer gossip

I remember Olise playing against us early in the season. Thought he looked like a decent player. Reckon he's quite young. Looked tricky, quick and direct. Not sure about much else about him.

I thought at the time we overpaid for kent, 4-5 million should have been limit.

I think hagi was good value at that price range and doubt we would lose money.

With the current situation though who knows what will happen with transfer fee's and values. madness to buy anyone

i think thats twice what kent is worth spr if i'm honest.

he had a decent season at rangers, done nothing at liverpool, i honestly don't know where 7 million comes from for a liverpool reserve player.

EPL madness. Other clubs down south would likely have been prepared to pay near enough that and see it as a small risk. He was already on loan at Rangers and receiving hero worship

I'm not totally convinced by Hagi. One of those guys who obviously has some skill and does some good things but maybe not often enough. We'll see what happens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hagi is definitely a very talented technical player. I think there is plenty more to come from him but im not convinced playing him on the right is the best idea. Hes a number ten for me.

My biggest issue would be that in Aribo, Kent and Hagi we would have three reasonably lightweight players whos main attributes are going forwards.

And even if you are shopping in the £4-7m bracket with these players they are still going to show a level of inconsistency.

Hagis arrival coincided with our collapse in the second half of the season. I am not saying it was his fault but I think our team massively lacks physicality. We were bullied by teams like Hearts and Killie.

He did make a physically weak midfield a bit weaker.

It would be possible to play Hagi, Aribo and Kent together but IMO we would need two very tough athletic holding midfield players in behind them.

Hagi could go either way. He could kick on and become a real asset to us or he could end up slinking off for a couple of million after one or two seasons.

I think his attitude looks good and played in the right way with the right people around him he could be a real asset.

£4m is a bit of a gamble for us in our financial situation though.

surely you have that in arfield and jack though?

aribo is a decent player i think, elastic big bhugger

Aribo has moments where he looks like a huge talent and moments where he looks like he was pulled out the crowd. Sometimes within seconds of the other.

I still think he's a player but need to work out his best position.

I think Hagi stood out in a poor side but he also went missing when the chips were down. Hearts, St Johnstone and Killie I think was the latter he was practically a man down.

Bit of a Nakamura type luxury player which is fine if you have others around you capable of winning games. Rangers don’t have many.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then again he raised his game against Braga, showed great character and was right up for it.

I don’t think he’s really cut out for our league and he doesn’t get it. But he is young and could well improve.

I’m not really fussed either way at the mo.

But one thing that’s certain is I’d be as likely to believe Chris Sutton as I would Michael Stewart. One is as fuddish as the other.

Aribo is like a lot of young creative type players - he can be inconsistent.

Aribo certainly has a lot of positive attributes. He can go past players, hes very athletic and can finish. He does have talent and is a potential matchwinner on his day.

He does have an uncanny knack of winning the ball back when he looks like he has lost it with those big elastalegs of his. Taribo-West is right though - he does need to toughen up a bit.

But for his first season moving to Rangers from a League 1 club like Charlton he did well - he didn't look out of place domestically or in Europe.

I think he has been a success but we need him to kick on again.

Arfield probably is the one player with a bit of dig about him. But he has no real physicality to him - he can only be about 5' 10" and when you meet him theres not a lot to him.

Jack being a hard man/combative midfielder is a myth IMO.

Hes good at intercepting/receiving the ball under pressure and moving it on efficiently. He is not a crunching tackle, battering into headers type player.

Davis is technically still good but he is far too lightweight. Kamara is a decent operator in midfield but again is a bit lightweight.

We could really do with a couple of enforcers as an option in there - particularly for the domestic games where teams just set out to make it a battle.

4m is cheap in today’s transfer market. Guys like Boli cost 3m, Celtic spent near 4m on the striker I can’t even remember. In comparison to those, Hagi for 4m is fantastic value. Would much rather we spent that on him that spent 2m each on Shved and Bayo. Celtic can afford to take these gambles, we’ve already seen quality from Hagi.

As for Rangers cash, the 11m hole was plugged by investors already. The loss of 10m was an accounting loss including the amortisation of players value etc. Any intelligent gent could simply look these things up.

Any signings we do make are being funded by investors. We can’t afford to gamble like Celtic, Kent was our big signing last year. Likely Hagi would be this year. We’ve built an entire new squad last couple years for best part of 20m. Which is really good going.

-------------------------------
This makes a lot of sense. Can see every club looking to trim squads to save money in the short term.
Only the bigger or stable clubs will be looking to fill vacant spots in their squad.
Imagine the demand for players deemed not spectacular will drop so inevitably their price will fall, supply/demand.
The best players values shouldn't be affected.

posted on 22/5/20

And in saying we’ve done well last couple years, that’s a result of the mess of a squad that was recklessly built and not worth a fraction of the outlay in terms of wages/fees with next to no sell on value.

posted on 22/5/20

Pleased with that if true.

Needs a change of formation to get the best out of him (and Kent) and move away from that ridiculous "2 10s" pash from last season.

Although there is no chance he will. Gerrard and his coaching staff are too set in their ways.

No idea if we can. But the wage bill is surely heavily reduced after a few were released and loans expired. Maybe in part from there?

I'd be very very surprised if 4m is paid up front though. That would be silly

Rangers best chance is for us to sell Edouard and Ntcham and replace them with projects.

Turnbull might be Ntcham’s replacement, should he still sign.

As for Edouard, fluck knows what we do there. Klimala is a Lidl version of Pavrel Brozek, Bayo is a junior player and Griffiths can’t be solely relied on for the full season.

Very few deals are ever structured with an up front transfer fee.

My only add to the Hagi debate is this not similar to the situation a year or so ago when Rangers fans where saying Celtic where spending millions to stand still with the signing of Edouard? The question I suppose is he worth a huge chuck of Rangers budget and how much will be left to improve the squad?
