Absolutely bizarre whatabout that is.

As an aside Poch's record with £15m+ players is shocking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There has to be asterisk next to any manager's transfer dealings at Spurs due to the Levy factor.

We just need to move this guy on now. Big clubs with ambitions don't settle for average mistake-ridden players who attract the wrong sort of attention.

Tottenham’s record above that amount is pretty crap in general. They seem to be more successful signing cheaper players.

This is linked to wages though.

Looking at transfer fee alone doesn't tell the full story.

Sanchez being a great example.

Yeah it's not all on the manager for sure, never is.

Aurier is on decent money though and is probably your beat right back.

I dont even know who Jack Clarke is. Rafa used to do this a bit and personally I always wanted him to save it up and go big on someone mint. Easier said than done of course.

I merely mentioned it as being a real football crime.

Just like Auriers playing style

Aurier's on about £70k per week.

Let's be honest - if United, Liverpool, City or Chelsea went out to buy an established right back, they'd be paying a lot more money than that.

AWB was bought as a 21 year old and is earning £20k a week more.

I'd be very interested to see how Poch gets on with a bigger wage budget.

We shouldn't be settling for him being our best right back. Kind of sums up the downturn in performance levels this club's had in the last few years.

Spurs aren’t paying them tuppence. I think they’ve just made a lot of signings that aren’t that good above that amount, a lot of their better players cost less. Son’s the only one I’d look at and say was a massive success.

They're paying significantly lower wages in most cases and that simply has to effect the success rate with signings.

I don’t disagree that Aurier’s a bit of a weirdo. Rash / impulsive kinda personality on and off the pitch.

However, to be Devil’s advocate..if he’s tested and his barber is tested aka they’ve both made the workplace as safe as possible, is it really that big an issue. If he’s made the workplace safe, why can’t he post pics of it? It’s his social media. You could argue if people are getting outraged at that it’s their issue, and their problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All the fake outrage on here, but most are saying they will be happy to start football with no social distancing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Classic no brain Aurier, can’t believe he had the audacity to post it on social media. Of course his number 1 can Sandy is all okay with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If he tested himself, and his barber tested himself, cannot see what the problem is? The guidelines are you are allowed to meet one person outside of your own home, even if you have not been tested. That is all he did. So what`s the problem?

So if you can actually tell me what he has done wrong, I will gladly stand to be corrected.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s broken the lockdown rules three times. Is it really that hard for you to understand?

But they’re more successful with cheaper players. And a lot of the players they’ve signed for bigger money were highly sought after, apart from Sissoko. So it’s not like they’re spending big money on nobodies.

Yeh I know, and it's far from guaranteed that a bigger wage bill would suddenly mean they can compete.

But I just think it's harsh to dig Poch out when he was limited so much by wages.

He's clearly very good at developing players. Can he buy a world class player and get them to fit within his team? We don't know.

It’s an interesting debate, These are the players Poch has signed for £20m+

Aurier £22m - flop
Sess £24m - too early
Lucas £25m - success
Son £27m - success
Sissoko £31m - flop for that price tag
Sanchez £36m - still young but flop
Ndombele £54m - too early but not great so far

Ridiculously mixed bag. Think my view is that ultimately price tags mean very little.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd disagree. our teams which have competed and had the quality to deliver a trophy (without actually doing so) have all been built the same way. Spurs have had a lot of success in teh transfer market and the team that has consistently made top 4 and made the UCL final has been built on some absolute quality which have not cost the earth - Toby, Vertonghen, Dembele, Rose, Walker, Lloris, Eriksen all cost £15m or less, some a lot less. Thin of Son, a great player, but on papaer another cheap Levy signing at £22m. Yet Sanches cost twiceas much and is pretty average. NDombele cost more still and will he be any good?

Back a bit and you have the Bales, Modrics, VDVs, etc who were all great and cost peanuts.

I think Levy has lacked teh willingness to make the occasional big signing - a VVD like player who truly adds value despite cost, and thats because there are a lot of players who cost the earth and do not add value for whatever reason - LFC spent £45m on Kieta and he's decent but a fringe player really. United and Pogba etc It doesnt always work and Levy seems risk adverse

We've also managed the departures and replacement of players badly in recent years
