Maybe being a bit biased but surprised to see Davie Cooper not mentioned in there.

Ruud Gullit named him in his all time XI and one of the greatest players he had ever played against.

Think their definition of winger makes it very British biased, otherwise you would have Messi, Stoichkov, Cruyff etc in there

Thought they might have mentioned Davie Cooper when describing Willie Waddel et al.

I was lucky to see Willie Henderson and Jinky

Haven’t read the list but typical wingers have died out in modern football due to the rise of 3-man midfields and a desire to dominate possession.

The likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Robben, Mbappe & Neymar just aren’t wingers in any true sense.

The best pure winger of all-time is Garrincha.

According to those who saw him play, he’s the best dribbler of all-time. He won 2 World Cup titles back-to-back: the only superstar to ever achieve this. He won the Golden Ball at the second World Cup win, which Brazil won without Pelé. Brazil never lost a game when Garrincha & Pelé played on the same team.

And he has was disabled. His knees were pointing inwards.

Cooper on his day was superb as was Jinky, entertainers who got yer attention whenever they got the ball

Brazil had brilliant players in most positions and were a joy to watch up to the early eighties.
Jinky for me but daresay there are a few others. Lots of wingers can't take grief like Jimmy Johnstone did and still get at you. Gareth Bale for a while was pretty special recently.

I always thought Tom Finney was better than Matthews. George was the best of all

posted on 22/5/20

George had genius but he never toed the line so Jinky bests him for that reason.

A winger is a dribbler that crosses, a provider if you like. Inside forwards are different; they start by dribbling but then look to shoot.

By a country mile. One of the best to have played in the position. You only have to look at the plaudits from former world class players to know that he is up there in the argument.

Actually agree.

Laudrup, Cooper and Henderson were all top class players. Wee Tommy McLean wasn't too far behind them at his best.

None of the were even close to Jinky.

The wee man at his peak was as good as anything I've ever seen. Unplayable. Red Star Belgrade, Leeds United, Real Madrid....None of the aforementioned players could get close to what Jinky did to those teams.

Yep - he ripped right up compared to Revilino, Best, Giggs, Cryuff, C.Ronaldo, Messi, Garrincha and the numerous others who were way better.

Johnstone was a very good player but this making him out to be something he wasn't is a bit embarrassing.

Surprised for his years he played as a winger that Beckham hasn't been mentioned.

Didn't have to beat a man with either trickery or pace, but give him half a yard and he'd kill ya with his crossing ability

It's not embarrassing for me.
I'm not sure why you think it's embarrassing at all.
Many neutral observers think he was a world class player.
The newspaper article in the OP put him ahead of Best and Giggs.
Apart from Garrincha, the others you mention weren't wingers.
All a bit pointless but work yourself into a frenzy about it if you've nothing better to do.
