At the end of the day there entitled to there opinion ,.it's a bit like when a few BAME footballers started having heart attacks on the pitch , Foe , Muamba , to name two.

The BAME in the highest risk are the ones born and bought up in hot countries and not British born. There was a doctor on Joe Rogan podcast mentioned this and how your body stores vitamin D.

‘What day you’ ok Delia.

There is a suggestion that Vit D can be associated with mortality rates and thus such - which is a possible factor.

Mostly it is socioeconomic, the same statistics typically mirror that of the working class population and city based residents. Which often replicate BAME communities, however that isn’t an excuse and highlights structural inequalities in our society.

I don’t have any evidence to support this but is the genetic make up different with different races and does this make some more susceptible than others to certain diseases? I find the ‘more on the front line’ a lazy argument, I don’t think I’m being stereotypical when I say that black people make up the vast majority of sprinters (look at any 100 metre final line up) yet look at swimming and you’d be hard pressed to find any. I’m not trying to be provocative here, just my thoughts on it

OP

Twice as likely to get covid19 than white folk and being male, that ups the risk too.

I read somewhere that bame suffer more, die to underlying health issues, such as diabetes, obesity and then we have poverty and cultural issues, where some feel a stigma going to a doctor to report illness.

Good thing is, bame players are young, well off and fit.

The original stats came from the fact more BAME people live in poorer more built up area'sm live in more populated properties (sometimes up to 10 adults per household) and are more likely to work in front line lower paid jobs.

All of this should be a concern to anyone who falls into this category.

However, a PL footballer is unlikely to fall into any of the above categories.

Deeny has a valid reason in the health of his son but shouldnt use the BAME reason as its just not relevant to his circumstances

Genetics will be part of the jig saw when scientists and medics figire out why sime get it more than others.

Italian men were said to smoke more....and Italy have an ageing populace.

Men don't wash hands as much as women, apparently.

Some cultures are more touchy feely than others, or have houses with different generations indoors...then in Scsndanavia, many single households.

Agree with much of that and we see Brum and London as hotspots for covid, with large Bame communities.

Thing is, why is the virus hitting the wealthy West more than any other region, when you look at it??

Europe and America..

It will be a fascinating research project.

these dark skinned ppl living in northern latitudes need to take high strength vitamin D supplements especially from october - april

think this is one of the main reasons they are more susceptible to severe covid - 19

To provide some context, I'm black myself and I don't blame the BAME players (or any worker for that matter) being worried about doing their job because of that statistic.

My point is more that there hasn't been any evidence to suggest the statistic is biological. As others have said in this thread already, its more likely to be socio economic underlying factors. At risk of going off tangent, a lot of the "race" issues in the country actually point out to wider socioeconomic issues, its just that often a certain race is more likely to be in a particular socioeconomic bucket, hence the correlation.

@joey - my point is that this has not been proved yet in regards to covid - it is just correlation rather than causation. Obviously genetic make up has implications on things like sprinting and swimming, but it is facilities and culture too (e.g. in UK i know that black people usually sprint as a hobby/at school rather than swim, and in black nations they usually put their sporting budget in athletics rather than swimming).

And that lazy headlines and reports sensationalising this is causing this fear among BAME people who have not done the research themselves into the genetic issues (I know it is obviously not available yet, but doesn't seem to be much critical thinking going on lol)

For talks sake, why do men die from covid more than women?

Some suggest, women have better immune systems.

There could be genetics at play too, between races, but who knows yet?

Why is Africa as a continent surviving covid better than nearby Europe?

Dear fellow black folk.

We are FOUR times more likely to die of this than our white counterparts, that’s the only stat you need to know.

Stay at home.
Stay away from the rest of the population.
Do not listen to “advice” from any of these people.

Well I’m certainly not going to listen to advice from people who don't give a f*ck if we live or die.

Ie everyone in Government and the majority of the population.

It’s worth bringing into focus why this is. Though people need to be careful with how they read these statistics. Doesn’t take a lot for some to twist them into an agenda.

The whole point is the government is saying that we are more likely to die so going by your logic you aren't going to listen to them and will stop social distancing?

That's what I am saying mate, like in football, statistics don't tell the whole story and often there is a correlation rather than a causation. The point of this article is to explore what is the agenda here. I am trying to explain that to Automatic but I don't think he gets it lol

I have read twice as likely to get covid, and four times as likely.....so which one is right?

Covid hits densely pop areas, so this means Brum and London, and that is where majority of bame live.

It's defo socio economic, but we will see if genetics is applicable in due course.

It is worth noting that in Brazil Covid deaths are increasing significantly, potentially disproving the Vit D theory - however they have a top 10 population which is exceptionally dense.
