Stevie G was a class player. One of the best the PL has seen IMO. Won trophies at his club and pretty much single handedly won the CL for then in 2005 on one of the best finals I remember.

Let's not turn this article into another Liverpool v Spurs wumfest please.

He’s a brilliant manager to be fair

My favourite memory was his 38 second cameo in his final game against United.

People usually remember the odd moments between so many other good ones.

Thierry Henry
“It was a disgrace he didn’t win European Footballer of the Year after Istanbul in 2005 and, for me, he will be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time.”

Zinedine Zidane
“There was a point when Gerrard was the best midfield player in the world. It is unusual to get complete midfield players who can do everything, but that is what he was.”

Patrick Vieira
“In my opinion he’s in the top three midfielders in the world, maybe the best right now. I heard what Alex Ferguson said about him being better than me. He’s probably right. Gerrard is England’s best player and he single-handedly got Liverpool into the Champions League.

“He is the complete player. He can score, he has a great final ball, he can tackle and he drives his team forward. He is a winner on the pitch, which is why I really admire him.”

Francesco Totti
“Steven Gerrard would be the captain of my World XI dream team. Gerrard is a complete player because he can play in every position and can do everything with a football at any time in a game.

“He’s a player who scores goals, who builds the play, he’s a sensational player.”

Surprising stat of the day.

Gerrards trophy average has barely diminished over the last five years.

He said: "Stoke City 6-1 Liverpool. We were five up at half-time and when we went back to the dressing room nobody said a word.

"I've never known anything like it at half-time, 5-0 up. The manager (Mark Hughes) walked in and didn't know what to say. We just burst out laughing."

That doesnt make sense but he won every club competition available bar the Prem so you've got to be a bit of a nobhead craving attention to try and diminush his achievements as a player.

He won four trophies in his career that are worth a crap, and that depends on how seriously you take the FA cup which isn't very based on the Klopp mentality.

So in what, 18 years, so a trophy every 4.5 years. Not winning one in five years won't affect the average much I said, granted tongue in cheek but the point is valid.

2 Fa cups
3 league cups
1 uefa cup
1 super cup
1 champions league.

I’d hazard a guess that’s a large percentage of trophies Wolves as a club has won in their entire history

Three league titles for a start, that is kind of a big one. Arguably the biggest. Super cup?! C'mon let's not be silly, on a par with the charity shield. League cups? Half the entrants field reserve sides, even lower down the leagues.

Gerrard was a solid player, alas his resume is sadly lacking big time.

3 league titles and 4 FA cup.

Taking out the super cup and league cups and he alone has won over half as many trophies than the history of your club.

See above the quotes from some of the greatest players to grace the game and you’ll see how special a player Stevie was

Yes that's what I said. He's won every club competition going bar the Prem. He's scored in every single final too which is nice and his individual accolades swamp every pretender in the Premiership.

Long story short you've gotta be a bit of a know nothing to not appreciate Gerrard. Bonafide world class midfielder.
