The only way this could get worse is if the Donald appoints Britain the 52 nd state and becomes our ruler.

Conservative commentator Tim Montgomerie says Boris Johnson "put his prime ministerial authority on the line" by backing his aide Dominic Cummings.

Montgomerie, who runs the Conservative Home blog, told the BBC that Johnson's backing for Cummings "would burn a whole in the heart of public confidence in this government".

He added that issue showed "complete hypocrisy of setting rules that you do not then follow".

Shortly after today's briefing Montgomerie also tweeted that he was "really embarrassed to have ever backed Boris Johnson for high office".

Members of one of the government's scientific advisory panels have hit out at the prime minister over his defence of aide Dominic Cummings.

Prof Stephen Reicher, Prof Susan Michie and Prof Robert West - who sit on the Sage behavioural science sub-committee SPI-B - have taken to social media following the Downing Street press conference.

Reicher said the prime minister had "trashed all the advice we have given on how to build trust and secure adherence to [lockdown] measures", while his colleagues both tweeted their agreement.

Michie said she feared that the public view of science would be diminished by "association with this government".

Final one for now though...

Conservative MP David Warburton: "I'm unconvinced by the PM's defence of Cummings.

"We've all been tasked with tempering our parental, and other, instincts by strictly adhering to govt guidance."

There’s nothing or no one that needs convincing - it’s once again, people who aren’t in the limelight, trying to get themselves there it’s an absolutely pitiful situation that is on no interest or substance whatsoever

I mean, let’s be honest, do we really care where Dominic Cummings goes, or what he gets up to - are people that sad really, that they have nothing better to do than chase someone trying to get themselves a headline

Absolute laughable situation

Don’t talk wet - it’s just yet another case of the loony left grappling around to try and discredit the Government in anyway possible to try and ease the pain of their worst political performance since 1935

Also the opposition need to do literally nothing but sit back and watch the torys rip themselves apart while labour actually look like a united party behind a new leader.

You're scared that the people you've put all your faith in not only think you and your family are complete idiots they know you'll still vote for them.

It is quite simple.

In ye olden days a minister or aide even sniffing off resigned. It was all for show as they got looked after for going so but they at least had the thought that improprieties couldnt be allowed.

If you or I did what Cummings did, we would have been arrested.

The police were flying drones at the start of lock down showing cars at beauty spots.

This simply begs the question if there are coppers out there right now who know full well they waved him through.

It's really funny that for example the Scottish health officer was forced to resign for going to a holiday home during lockdown, yet as the allegations go further Cummings reasons for going start to break down.

The reality is if you thought you had it you would not risk the drive but most likely he knew his parents couldn't get to him so he waved his all access id about and got down there twice.

But, number U22182, none of the examples I’ve given can possibly be regarded as left leaning. Neither, U22182, can The Times, the Financial Times, the Mail and least of all The Spectator - possibly the most right wing publication of all.

Yet they’ve all demanded Cummings either resign, or be sacked, number U22182.

Perhaps, number U22182, you need to stop unquestioningly believing everything you’re fed by Cummings’ puppets, number U22182, and take a peek behind the curtain...

Will Boris call for a new general election after Dominic resigns as the country will have no actual PM?

It was probably Cummings who came up with the logo “Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives”

The media have done my head in with this Cummings witch hunt. So much more going on that is more important that doesn't even make the news or is being brushed under the carpet.
