I may remember this wrong as well but did Rangers not get lucky with the English European ban where the top English players couldn't play in Europe unless they went to Rangers or a continental team?

Dominated despite the best combined efforts of the various branches of the Establishment.

Then, after a brief stint between 90-91, the unseen fineyin hand returned in 2003 and nothing was ever the same again...

Wish we'd get rid of that prat in the dugout and bring in a proven manager.

Oddly when writing the article I seen comparisons between the appointment of Barnes and Gerrard. Both top players who spent the best of the careers at Liverpool. Both with ambitions to move into management. Both afforded an opportunity at the Old Firm. Both failed.

The difference is we weren't trying to stop 10IAR (although Wim Jansen was as much a gamble but it pad off). Other difference is that despite Barnes team playing tremendous football for the first half of the season when it started to go downhill rapidly we got rid.

That combination of Barnes and Dalglish just has to be up there as one of the most cringeworthy episodes in our managerial history.

Outrageous we seem intent on going into a third season with Gerrard in charge.

Okay we're going to be crowned Europa Champions having come the furthest but two January collapses are unforgivable, absolutely has to be punted but stays courtesy of his name.

Had a similar conversation with my son the other day as well. He’s 15, and got a half season ticket as a Xmas present from my brother one year, and we’ve just kept it going since then-he’s been there for the full 9iar.

Incredible times.

Yup.

However because he's pyoor Stevie Gerrard, the Scouse Gareth Barry he's gotta stay in the mindset of some of our support.

Just need to look on FF at the Gerrard threads to see that so many are starstruck with some of the reasons that get thrown about.

He needs to gtf. We tried the rookie option before with that oaf super salary, we should have knew better to try it again.

since the turn of the century we have been the better side overall and that's in spite of rangers use of EBT's.

Since o'neil took over, we have been a different team with some odd seasons of being phish.

Lawwell takes a lot of credit for that as well.

I've nae real opinion on Stevie at Rangers as the manager but even if they had wanted rid of him how much would it have cost?

Could be a factor, I also remember Rangers signing all the English players, could pay them a good wage and thought we'd not win fck all for a good while?

christ, the knives are well and truly out

Gerrard was a cracking player, Barry shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as him

I believe Ibrox redevelopment maybe played a part in rangers being pretty average before souness came in.

You're right he shouldn't.

Unlike Gerrard, Barry actually won a league.

Miller, was that situation where it was paid for over a good few years , similar to what Arsenal had tae do financially when they left Highbury?
