Took a long time for those connected with Liverpool to face the responsibility of what happened that evening. Initially they blamed everybody but themselves. The state of the stadium, the organisation, the Belgium police and the italian fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And those things blamed were proven to be part of the blame.

+++

They were nothing to do with it. As well you know it.

English football hooliganism caused the death of these people, alone.

Yes, the crumbling walls collapsed at an old famous stadium. But nobody have ever tested it before by chasing hundreds of Italians across the terraces into a Cul-de-Sac. And the Belgium police and UEFA naively were concentrating on hosting a show piece Euro Cup final and not a bloody scouse riot.

How old are you TOOR? Do you remember these times? I am a Man United fan but I left work early that day to watch the game on TV. Saw it all unfold in front of my own eyes. We were great at aggro then. Best in the World at kicking the 5hite out of opposing fans at football matches. Especially foreigners abroad. Always being one step ahead of the authorities and local police.

Times have now changed thankfully. But the stains still linger.

I'm sorry but this is nonsense IMO. Why was the stadium guy charged and found guilty if it was the fault of Liverpool fans alone?

I suppose because if the fans had been content singing, talking, instead of charging the Italian fans the wall wouldn't have collapsed.

It was solely down to Liverpool supporters, I watched it unfold live on TV. Lots of Liverpool thugs rampaging across the terraces like cavemen. They, and they alone were responsible for all those murders, not the stadium manager.

The stadium was obviously unsafe.

This is the injustice of it all. Lawyers are very clever and muddy the water from the facts and truth. Look for loopholes and others to blame.

You would be mad to think this disaster would still have happened if a) it wasn't and english team in that final and b) They went there pi55ed up looking for a good scrap.

To call it 'nonsense' STILL even after all this time.. FFS... it makes you part of the problem.

The truth is there were many incidents of English hooligans abroad.

++

Correct.

It happened wherever we went. Every World Cup we rioted to the extent they threatened to send us all home during the tournament.

BTW what is the moral high ground over this issue. Is there one?

What problem? Dont preach please because I didn't say any of that stuff. I said it was nonsense because it's been on this thread that some stadium official was charged with manslaughter and found guilty and this was to do with the stadium being unfit for purpose. Some reports openly admit that the stadium was not fit for purpose.

These facts illegitimise your comment in my opinion.

My team had plenty of hooligans supporting them

Personally I find it abhorrent that anyone would use a truly sad incident as a stick to beat opposition fans.
Each life lost left a family with years of grief & misery.
Hopefully the OP gets his comeuppance

Who is using this `as a stick to beat opposition fans` with? Just because the facts hurt the pride of 1 or 2 salty supporters, does not mean anybody is trying to use this in the way you like to think. If I was trying to wum, I would have mentioned the result of the match which went ahead regardless.

This article was posted on the Spurs and United boards and is just a reminder of a footballing tragedy that is largely overlooked in this country in relation to other similar disasters.

A time to remember a tragic day for football on a big anniversary.

Despicable behaviour.

I says it all when there is a Heysel tribute kindly posted on the Pool board, shortly after this one, and it has received just 7 comments.

Despicable behaviour.

It wasn't an incident, it was manslaughter.
