Personally I find it abhorrent that anyone would use a truly sad incident as a stick to beat opposition fans.
Each life lost left a family with years of grief & misery.
Hopefully the OP gets his comeuppance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't an incident, it was manslaughter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. A section of Liverpool fans almost entirely responsible. But it was a long time ago and things have moved on, not to forgot those that lost their lives so needlessly. Definitely shouldn’t be used as a wum platform.

To think the game still went on...

Who is using this `as a stick to beat opposition fans` with? Just because the facts hurt the pride of 1 or 2 salty supporters, does not mean anybody is trying to use this in the way you like to think. If I was trying to wum, I would have mentioned the result of the match which went ahead regardless.

This article was posted on the Spurs and United boards and is just a reminder of a footballing tragedy that is largely overlooked in this country in relation to other similar disasters.

A time to remember a tragic day for football on a big anniversary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you do an article about the Bradford disaster on it’s anniversary 2 weeks ago?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, somebody else beat me to it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You had plenty of time to post one. Yet in this case you couldn't even wait until the anniversary itself, such was your eagerness to point score. Despicable behaviour

I don't want to resurrect the whole affair, and would never have done an article on it.
All the caveats are true, the stadium was unfit, the police weren't prepared, the wall was crumbling.
But those people died because Liverpool fans tried to attack them so the wall fell on them.
There were lots of English hooligans then, and it could easily have been another club. But it wasn't, so Liverpool have to carry most of the blame
Fans of my club attacked plenty of others and it was good fortune nothing dramatic happened.
It's a long time ago now and everything has been said.

Once again Pool fans like to think everything is all about them, anybody who thinks this article is about point scoring has serious issues. Nothing I post is intended as a wum or is false, unfortunately the insecure Saltypudlians on here have a habit of turning every article into a dig at them.

I’m not a Liverpool fan by any stretch of the imagination. I believe many Liverpool fans on here, if not all, are willing to attribute sone degree of blame on the Liverpool supporters for what happened that day. If not, they should.
However, this article comes across as a petty point scoring article. For what purpose, I don’t know.
If that wasn’t your intention Billy, you should have stated so in a sincere manner (it didn’t come across as sincere) , and asked Admin to delete the article.
You still can, by the way.

Yeah it was all our fans that charged the knife welding, starter pistol shooting poor Italian fans first. They were totally innocent

Have to say, this thread surprised me today. I really thought it would descend into anarchy after 25 comments and be closed.

Nice to see everyone (except for sandy) recognize this as a blatant attempt to use a tragedy and the deaths of numerous people to point score and cause an argument.

Nice work everyone for calling out billy

Took a long time for those connected with Liverpool to face the responsibility of what happened that evening. Initially they blamed everybody but themselves. The state of the stadium, the organisation, the Belgium police and the italian fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And those things blamed were proven to be part of the blame.

+++

They were nothing to do with it. As well you know it.

English football hooliganism caused the death of these people, alone.

Yes, the crumbling walls collapsed at an old famous stadium. But nobody have ever tested it before by chasing hundreds of Italians across the terraces into a Cul-de-Sac. And the Belgium police and UEFA naively were concentrating on hosting a show piece Euro Cup final and not a bloody scouse riot.

How old are you TOOR? Do you remember these times? I am a Man United fan but I left work early that day to watch the game on TV. Saw it all unfold in front of my own eyes. We were great at aggro then. Best in the World at kicking the 5hite out of opposing fans at football matches. Especially foreigners abroad. Always being one step ahead of the authorities and local police.

Times have now changed thankfully. But the stains still linger.

Which is of course a lie, as found out in courts and by reports of the incident. You can't just make up stuff when the facts have already been established.

the 'truth' and 'the facts established in a court of law' can ofter be 2 different things.

As a scouser I have surprised you haven't worked this out by now.

Still in total denial for responsibility for this incident after all these years. Despite us all watching the carnage happen live on TV.

Point scoring don't even come into it. That is always the usual call for stuff supporters find unpleasant to get to grips with. I called it as I saw it. Murder by Liverpool supporters. I don't sugarcoat such serious incidents like Heysal, and neither should anybody else.

Blaming the stadium manager, the state of the wall, the police etc is just trying to pass the buck for what the Liverpool thugs did.

First of all it was never murder. It was correctly judged as manslaughter. That doesn’t excuse anything that happened, it’s just a fact.

This is what Sandy does. Does he genuinely believe it was murder or is he saying that to rile LFC fans up, then claim we were defending those at Heysel for pointing out it wasn’t murder?

Nope. You're still lying. The facts have already been established. You don't get to change them and decide people are in denial.

I have never denied what happened, nor have I denied the blame mainly lies with the people who engaged with the Italian fans but I also haven't lied and decided against all evidence, against the findings that the stadium wasn't in a state, that UEFA weren't partly to blame and these things weren't part of the blame.

If you want to keep lying about it, go ahead, the facts have already been established so you just look a bit silly. Everybody can see that you're lying, it's pointless.

It was murder. Why would I not expect a Liverpool supporter to deny it? Acting like animals at a football match, and then trying to say it wasn`t there fault, is what is seriously wrong with a lot of Liverpool fans. Own your mess for once, instead of always trying to pass the buck.

And there it is. Predicted this over an hour ago.

Firstly it wasn’t murder. You obviously don’t understand the legal definition of the word.

Secondly I made a point of saying it doesn’t excuse what happened.

But I suppose it’s easy to accuse me of excusing it from behind the filter button you coward.

Would someone kindly reply so Sandy can see this please?
