He still holds the record for most spent in one transfer window at United - imagine how much the alleged first choice players would have been 😂

This must be why Memphis got the no. 7 shirt - and there was me thinking it was a compliment.
What ever frustrations he may have had with the players brought in, they were still of quality:
Falcao, di Maria, Herrera, Schweinsteiger, Martial, Blind etc...

Yeah it was boring. I think a quality striker and playmaker would have improved results though. We did have a good chance created to conceded ratio, although both were low.
if he maybe says the name of the players he wanted then we can have a conversation about whether utd should/could have gone the extra mile. Until I know the names just sounds like excuses for his failures
I think he’s telling porkies here.

Under his playing style, the one or two chances they created, you had to take them, which meant we needed absolute clinical strikers.
Defence wise, I can't argue with him. We rarely conceded, think only 2 or 3 clubs performed better than we did in that area.

It’s harder to concede when you spend the game passing the ball sideways 😂
And we often played with five at the back and sat deep.

I remember going to old trafford with non utd fans who had visited manchester.
I was so apologetic about wasting their time to watch the borefest LVG was serving up
LVG isn't the only manager to have complained about this

I wondered who he wanted then
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at the way he likes to play and his history of getting players he knows from his previous teams and/or competitions, it's not hard to guess.
He definitely wanted a very good ball playing defender, most likely from Bayern or Dortmund (im guessing Boateng, Hummels or another German youngster) and got Rojo instead. He also most likely wanted 2 ballplaying defensive midfielders and got 1 he wanted (planning to play Blind in midfield or LB when playing 5 at the back).
He also got Herrera and Schneiderlin, but I think he only accepted those because his first choices fell through and he got Schweinsteiger as a sweetner. Gundogan, Wilshere, Ramsey and possibly even Moussa Dembele (the Spurs one, worked with him at AZ before) could have been his preferred options and the reason why he's disappointed Utd couldnt get players from 'smaller' clubs.
I'm also sure he wanted to convert Rooney in the 10 position from the start, that leaves only RVP up top. Deffo wanted to get another allround younger striker (not Lewa, Auba, maybe other German or Spanish one), and instead got Falcao as 7th choice. Quite soon fell in love with polishing Rashford up instead, so that was not a big loss for him i guess...
Oh and regarding Depay and DiMaria, they were surely his first choices as both fit his preferred type of wingers. But Ed Woodward should have veto'd the Di Maria transfer if he knew LVG's weak points: handling diva type players, especially South American ones he lacks a cultural connection with (coming late, not taking on field tasks seriously, aka Rivaldo ). That's why he liked coaching Bayern as German players are in general more disciplined and have a certain distance and respect for the trainer.

He could have worked with what he had better, but he's not the first manager to criticise your scouting/transfer team.

And they are rightly criticised.
But he spent a fortune and shouldn't need to buy a bunch of world class players to be successful.

And vetoed Kroos but was happy to sign Herrera, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger. Happy days.
He's mentioned something similar in the OP before. We can tell certain players were his choices such as Blind, Depay, and Bastian are 3 examples. He hasn't given examples of players he wanted for us to compare.
Personally, I think there was disagreements in what signings needed to be made. Di Maria was an Ed signing (imo) and even Jose and Moyes had issues with signings (with Jose accepting signings that he didn't want and Moyes getting Mata).
This is why this reset with Ole is so important. The clubs vision and plan to move forward and what signings are needed at all in sync. It feels like everyone is pulling in the same direction unlike under the previous managers and set up behind the scenes.
Yeah exactly. Our transfer team does deserve criticism, but it’s convenient that the managers that made bad signings are focussing on it.

There are broadly 2 types of managers: those that are very good people managers and just try to work with what they have as much as possible. Like Hiddink, Jupp Heynckes, Anchelotti, Harry Rednapp.
And you have those that stubbornly implement their ideas at all cost like Guardiola, AVB (extreme high line with Terry , Manchini (3 holding midfielders with all the riches...).
And coincidently the 3 managers after SAF just happens to fall in the latter category and to make things worse they have polar opposite views of each other in that sequence.
Yeah, as the owner, I would blame this on Ed if no one else...
