I’m mean if you can define a 2 week hiatus without any friendlies as “preseason” then I’ll concede there’ll be a preseason...

It won’t be 2 weeks either

At least a month - probably more.

That’s won’t really be the case. Plus leagues will have to start and finish at different times, so I don’t see how taken that statement and trying to apply all across Europe makes sense.

If all the English clubs go out of Europe early, for example, it gives them a chance to better prepare for the next season.

Not based on the timeframe I’ve been privy to, but let’s see. I’ve been saying for weeks on here that the PL would absolutely recommend in the third week of June, based on that timeframe, so I’ll give it some credibility.

It doesn’t apply across all leagues. It applies to English competition and the Europa and CL’s.

But there will need to be some correlation as the whole issue is down to UEFA wanting to get their competitions finished and then started again.

If these things aren’t taking into account how far these clubs are going in their competitions, and whether they’ll be in the following season’s competitions, then it will fack things up.

UEFA have already publicly stated their timelines for concluding the CL and EL. Obviously that’s caveated, but looking at the teams left in the CL in particular most of the countries with teams involved are planning to allow international flights in and out from July, so its not beyond the realms of possibility that August is a viable timeframe at this point.

The alternative is to just scrap it, but do you see that happening?

The whole thing is quite farcical at this point. Liverpool need 4 points to win the league, and then their reserves will be giving up 21 points to their remaining 7 opponents. Could help Brighton and Villa our big time.

posted on 28/5/20

That’s what happens when everyone is the league has been so shiiiiiit all season. Though I can see Liverpool wanting to win all their games and set a new points record. It’s the only thing they have to play for now.

Probably for the same reason a lot of teams play their kids in their final few fixtures every season - diddly squat to play for, nothing to lose and valuable experience to be had... We’ve done it plenty of times.

Like Darren said, they’ll likely want to set a points record and with no other distractions they probably will.

but that would have been the case regardless of Covid. So there's no change really.

Liverpool need 6 points to win the title.

I suppose it'll spice things up a little if they drop points in their first game back.

They'd lost 3 in 4 in all comps just before the lockdown but I suppose they will have regouped by now.

Your last 6 in the league read 3 wins 2 defeats and 1 draw. To clarify you lost more points in them 6 games than we have all season.

But I suppose you will have regrouped by now.

The provisional plan for next season assigns a two week break from the culmination of the European and football league competitions to the beginning of the 20/21 competition. That plan assumed that the PL would recommence in the third week of June and be completed by the end of July, with European and Football League competition concluded in August. The 20/21 season proper will then start in September.

That might change slightly, but you can be certain there won’t be a full preseason.

Wonder how they'll fit in the euros next summer

Sky's allocation of outstanding games has been almost doubled. They were owed 36 games, but they're going to be showing 64 of the remaining 96 PL games (BT will show the rest). 25 of these additional games for Sky will be simulcast on their Free to Air channel Pick.

Good news for PL fans.
