Pogba with his lapses in concentration and questionable commitment to defensive duties is a liability in a pivot.

I dont think we need another CM. McTominay, Matic, Fred, Pogba and Fernandes are great options. Plus we have Pereira and the young lad, Dejembel??
-----------
Bruno isn't playing in cm... He's playing as a 10
We play a double pivot... Mctominay, Fred and Matic can play that role.... Pogba just isn't reliable enough or disciplined enough for it imo
I'd rather lose pogba and buy a genuine DM/CM
I don't think anyone is buying pogba in the current climate tho so can't see it happening
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you say a genuine CM, what does that make Pogba?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pogba is a number eight in possession, and what I am calling a false eight off the ball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Define a number 8 / false number 8
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Traditionally, the number eight is the side’s most advanced central midfield player, and the one primarily responsible for orchestrating attacks in the transfer of the ball from the midfield to the forwards.
The false eight is a fake position I have just invented to suggest that off the ball, Pogba is prone to go missing, particularly in the offensive to defensive transition.
I really want us to sign Jack Grealish this summer, Because I don't want us to rely on Pereira & Lingard, If we get injuries next summer.

Spot on.
A right winger should be top priority. James is decent but not good enough to start every week, Mata doesn’t have the legs to play there, Lingard and Pereira aren’t good enough and Greenwood has just turned 18 and we don’t know what his best position will be.
We’ve lacked quality in that role since Nani & Valencia were good.
2nd priority an attacking midfielder who can play wide also. Grealish in other words.
After that maybe a young midfielder but I think we can leave the rest of the team alone for now.

Maybe Pogba isn’t a top player then, and we should buy a top player that is versatile in different CM set ups.
He is versatile in different midfield set ups, his whole career has shown this. Issue is his consistency and application, but that’s less to do with position and more to do with his mental attributes and the team he plays in.

It's debatable if players today are as versatile due to specialist positions current setups require.
Centre forward for me. Martial is just not good enough. Greenwood still Raw. Rashford is the only decent striker we have. A world class striker can cover up many faults in a team.

Most of our current players may be deployed in different roles, but they are only effective in one position. Rashford best on the left, Martial best down the middle and Greenwood on the right.

2. CF
3. CB
4. CM

To an extent, but not to the extent you suggest, in my opinion. He’s an inconsistent player in an inconsistent team. One of the good things about having Bruno now is how much pressure it takes off of Pogba to create now. We’ll see a lot more disciplined performances from him due to that as there will be less reliance on him to join the attack. We’ll probably still see inconsistencies, but I’m fine with that if we can improve as an attacking team. He’s a better player than Fred and McTominay wherever he plays on the pitch. They just have a low bar with which they’re judged because they aren’t very talented players. Henderson syndrome.

Exactly my point Wonder Man.
Just little men trying to pretend they know more about the game than others by spouting lots of jargon.

It's debatable if players today are as versatile due to specialist positions current setups require.

Player shave allways had specialist positions / roles. It's just those roles change over time.

He is versatile in different midfield set ups, his whole career has shown this. Issue is his consistency and application, but that’s less to do with position and more to do with his mental attributes and the team he plays in.

I think it’s both Dazza, tbh.
The issues with his application are more of a problem when he’s playing in some positions than in others.

Top players are versatile. This sort of thing is over analysed beyond belief.

Most of our current players may be deployed in different roles, but they are only effective in one position. Rashford best on the left, Martial best down the middle and Greenwood on the right.

Also Rdd, you didn't say who you think we should sign for those 3 priority positions.

All players are better in A position / role, but plenty of ours can play more than 1.

But it's your article, so you first. I don't watch enough football to know who we should sign, but my priorities would be:
1. Right sided attacker
2. CF
3. CB
