Woakes should play every game in England from now on I think, his home average is ridiculous
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good post and I agree. Who do you drop him for in the home matches though?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that's the issue at the mo, but Jimmy probably won't be here in another year or so, so should resolve itself

Broad!

Who was it earlier who said they wanted Woakes and Broad to get the last 2???

To be honest sandy if it was the other way round and England were struggling to get wickets you’d be moaning about how average this England side is.

So either way, you’ll find a way to moan about the cricket.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not really mate, I want to see proper Test Cricket, I don't care who wins really. Just want to see five day stuff, where teams can bat out more than a session when trying to save game without losing all their wickets in about 40 overs. Take away the breaks for the weather, and this is another Test in England that has barely lasted three days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Plenty of test matches do go 5 days. Just because this one isn’t, doesn’t mean it never happens. West Indies did win the first test remember.

I’ll expect the next series between Pakistan to be a lot closer.

Sorry Bake em, I felt like having a convo about cricket.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's hope the next series is more competitive. I want to see proper hardened Test cricket.

It will be a shame to have the England v Pakistan game without fans. It will be compelling to watch but I love watching India or Pakistan playing in this country and the support is superb.

Why can't you all just let Sandy have his opinion rather than all jumping down his throat. You may not agree but just allow the man to have an opinion and move on.

That's going to be a big ask with Pakistan coming into the series cold against a side who are battle hardened in what WAS a competitive series.

Woakes now has 81 wickets at home at an average of 22.5. Absolutely brilliant considering he's in and out of the side a lot.

Anderson had a quiet couple of tests with just 5 wickets but I think his economy was the best of the lot and he often kept things tight.

Honestly don't know which trio I'd pick for the first test of the Pakistan game if Stokes can bowl. Probably Anderson, Broad and Woakes on current form but you feel, like with a spinner, that having someone like Archer in the side just offers that pace variation if we need to break a partnership.

Really enjoyed the series. Very much looking forward to the Pakistan series.

Missing out on days at the cricket is the worst part of this summer for me

Can't beat either a test match or a post work T20 pissss up.

No proper Test Side should be bowled out in a little over 37 overs, especially when they are trying to save a match. Should at least try to make the opposition work for their win.

Test matches I like, if they could last longer, but T20 I cannot stomach.

Think this Windies team are very much a work in progress. Don’t forget they beat us in their back yard last time, and the time before they came over here.

Didn’t think they would win a test this series so fair play.

I agree that they shouldn't be but it can happen and teams can get bowled out quickly. This wasn't a great showing from the West Indies but they've been good value in this series. You can't just dismiss them as a test team and test players because they collapsed today.

I do agree that there's not as many players left who've got the technique or mental toughness to bat for long periods of time and part of that is down to the increased popularity of the shorter form of the game as you say. As much as the cricketers of today still say test cricket is the pinnacle, the problem is that T20 is where the money is. I do agree with you on that. However that doesn't mean no one can play test cricket anymore.

Fair enough, point taken. Just that I think England would also have also not managed to bat out a day either to save a Test. It is just the modern game I suppose.

posted on 28/7/20

Yeah, in the Bayliss era, I'd definitely agree with you there but I think we're on a good trajectory under Silverwood. More batsmen are looking to bat time and I think in Burns and Sibley, we have two openers who will look to set the tone if we get into a situation where we need to save the game.

You're right about modern day batsmen, so many are these 360 type batsmen who've got every shot in their locker that they find it hard to leave the ball.

The error you've made here, people, is taking Sandy seriously. He's very clearly on the wum. His modus operandi:

1. Post idiotic and inflammatory comment (pretty much word for word the same as every previous post by him on the cricket board)

2. Get a reaction

3. Goad the person who reacted into "insulting" him (NB. the term "insult" has a very loose definition so it's a low bar)

4. Say "You insulted me so you've lost credibility"

5. Sit at his keyboard feeling smug that he won an argument so he's achieved something worthwhile with his day.

The craving for attention is really quite desperate.
