Consider the issues we’re having right now regarding Brexit, and the political division it’s caused. This is happening in a country that is largely uneducated on the British Empire. I think it’d exasperate the issue, as it’s a pretty divisive issue among historians, let alone the uneducated masses.

I don’t think they want to learn or understand. They want to seek out something that confirms an already entrenched position.

If a lot of prejudice, bigotry and racism is acquired at a young age surely history thaught in schools would go some ways to counteract it.
Bluebell would suck you lot up and blow you out in bubbles easily.
I'm no fan but he is what he is, hate to use a pun be he does exactly what he says on the tin, whilst plenty run around pretending me, me me and don't get me wrong and I've a few who I've thought were meh but you change if you actually read what posters write and most don't so it's the same old cycle.
The reply button was the worse ever added feature to JA, killed reading, made posters lazy as they wouldn't copy and paste what they wanted to reply to and pages and pages of bile and paragraphs by posters who wanted to have the upper hand.
Well, well done I'll still post but even in the most serious of stuff I still hope we can manage a safe distancing surfer of the year as its a thing of beauty brevid 20.

Sometimes you need the generated clicks.
In theory yes, but you need to consider the agenda for what, and why, this history is taught and then how it’s received by the public - you can’t ignore the parents’ role in how it’s being taught and interpreted. Given the current climate it has potential to lead to more division, as the subject leads to a lot of resentment among many demographics or glorification and weaponisation among others.
I believe these are reasons why we’ve steered clear of teaching it in schools anyway.

Indeed, but I think it’d be exasperated. And I don’t think this current government is one that should be dictating how this subject is taught.
There's enough historical material out there regardless, for most people to get a good handle on major historical events and figures and how theyve impacted on today's world.
Movies, and documentaries abound for those who cant or dont read
No excuses for the vast majority to be ignorant even if deprived of history in their school years.

Often the problem is that people who miss out on education lack the ability to access information. They don't know what they don't know..
It's like a white person looking at stats to try and demonstrate how institutional racism doesn't exist. If your reality is so completely different to those around you you can't begin to understand what's going on. Articles, movies etc from that reality will just make you confused, scared, and angry.
Historically that demographic would've been restricted to kicking the dog. These days they can take to the internet and latch onto anything that confirms their false beliefs and allays their fears. See: anti-vaxxers and flat earthers. It's easy for people like that to say the rest of the world is crazy because it is to them. Flying a rocket in space?? How does the rocket work with no air?? Checkmate!!!
Of course the police are institutionally racist, the whole system in America is institutionally racist, America itself is institutionally racist.
Solidarity with ALL the protesters in America tonight who are ignoring curfew, I’ve no problem with ANY action the protesters are taking, they’ve tried peaceful protest and it hasn't worked so what we are seeing now is a perfectly acceptable response.

Stats and numbers can show whatever you want them to do....
2018 (last full year I could find)
Police fatal shootings 1165 of which 26.7% were black; 50.6% were white.
So the police killed twice as many white people as black
So the police force isn’t racist
However the white population of the USA is 62% whilst the black population is 12.7% so if you’re black then you’re 3 times as likely to be fatally wounded by the police, so the police are racist
