It’s like discussing child poverty and saying that you saw a child throw a donut at a duck today.

As if it has any relevance whatsoever.

Mustn’t go unchecked though, hey.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could you elaborate?

If we were defending the cop or he got off, I could see the outrage?

As we have been labelled "white" by I am not sure who, do we assume the position of guilty until proven innocent?

Us, newly defined white folk in Belfast and Glasgow and beyond, must get it right in case we are accused of something relating to our ancestors or people 5000k miles away.

Would it be so much better if people just stopped being white?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s in relation to people bringing up anecdotes about black people being ‘racist’, as if that’s at all relevant or similar to the issues in America right now.

Anyone drawing those comparisons doesn’t understand the problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok.

We ignore black power racism, but condemn white power racism, then?

Black people can say black is best and whites are pink eyed devil's?

A white guy this week on a platform supporting Floyd can be abused by black people saying, " you don't understand" and that's just cool?

Nah, that schite.

As I say, you don’t understand the real issue.

Anyone can make a racist comment.

That is not the issue. If it were, it would be a lot easier to fix.

Bit wishy washy.

If you think it cool to hate or loathe white people or other races, that is just weird.

Of course black people get it worse.

But, why copy racists,

Bit daft, innit.

Re the OP

Are shootings involving African Americans the only yardstick by which institutional racism in law enforcement is to be determined or measured

What in your view is the real issue.

You have assumed much of me, so the floor is yours.

For starters, I call out racist cops and systemic racism in society.

I haven’t assumed anything of you.

The biggest issue is subconscious bias and prejudice.

Anyone can identify a racist comment or action. That’s the easy part and just a numbers game.

What’s harder to understand is the prejudice that black people face every single day.

That runs through police stopping people driving, job interviews... you name it, it affects all aspects of life.

We have it fairly good in the UK, far better than the US. But we have our own issues still and we will do for decades to come.

Anyone who doesn’t think there’s institutional prejudice against blacks from the police, read the above.

The president of the Minneapolis police union actually said; Floyd had a ‘violent criminal’ background (trying to partly excuse what happened), that the protesters are ‘terrorists’, and worst of all... that he’s working with the union’s labour attorneys to fight for the 4 officers’ jobs.

It's been reported that Chauvin had history of improper conduct that was excused or overlooked by his superiors.
He wasnt in fact doing his job last week and neither were his colleagues

Great, then presumably you can understand the frustration when people come up with an anecdote and claim that racism works both ways?

Because with the real issues of racism in the US and in the UK, it doesn’t work both ways.

Individual occasions of racist comments by black people does not change that.

posted on 2/6/20

The UK is far ahead of America on racism but it's stupid to generalise the whole country as one thing, as it's so huge.

Things vary from state to state and some places have much higher tensions and inherent racism than other states, and areas within states.

Some parts of America are more advanced than the UK but as a collective they have a long way to go.

Sorry.

He murdered a bloke by putting his knee on his neck for 9 minutes, and after 6, listening to the guy ask for his Moma and breathe, the guy passed out....yet still he kept his knee on him..

Cop was a bouncer too, and they like a fight and easy meat, and so he got George Floyd, who he worked with before on doors, and yet still treated him like a dog .

This was evil and murder, possibly based on race, and no excuses are needed or wanted....it was murder

If it was a one off, or not after slavery and oppression, perhaps we could play the law card?.......nah, that just bollox too.
