sandy, like you, I was concerned to see this yesterday, so I did some research.

Turns out that Spain have changed their reporting procedures to only include deaths that happened the day before the report is published.

On Monday, Madrid reported 11 new deaths but none of these were recorded in Spain's official figures.

On 26th May, their reported deaths were 283. The next day, after the change, it was 1.

If England adopted this approach, yesterday's figure would have been 20.

This is the problem with listening to certain sections of the media and with taking figures at face value.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is very interesting.

Govt manipulation is rife in Spain as well then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Indeed.

Twitter is awash with the suggestion that more people were reported dead in the UK yesterday than in the whole of Europe.

The Chief Political Editor of the FT even posed the question why.

This is really poor, from people who should know better.

Many people are scared and this sort of scaremongering is unhelpful, to say the least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The more I have read and watched the news the more convinced I am that the truth does not matter over a nice juicy headline.

Journalism is a joke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I bet you were not saying that with all the untruthful headlines surrounding Corbyn for four years. Most were lapping them up.

Isn't it fairly obvious? Even only a slight grasp of how a virus works should be enough to know what is smart practice and what isn't?

To be honest the washing hands bit shouldn't matter unles you are interacting around other people. But the travelling thing is a big one. Don't travel for jollies where you will have to spend the night, go to a store/restaurant for food etc. Every point of contact is a chance to pick up the virus.

Idiots continually going to the store is probably the biggest cause of spread at this point, ask yourself how much do you really need that watering can this year, or that starbucks coffee? Enough to actually put yours or others health at risk?

Im with cinciwolf on this.

As (and I can’t stress this enough) incompetent as out government are, people should have enough common sense to get us out of this.

You can’t tell me people don’t understand that the more they socialise, the higher the risk. Everybody must understand this. Bear in mind I’m not trying to absolve the government of blame, but we do need to think for ourselves
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But the government are there to govern those people who are acting poorly. If people don't observe the guidelines properly then the government must resolve it quickly.

Its easy to blame the public, but the government rule the public and therefore have the biggest influence on them over anyone.

Of course we should blame the public. They know the guidelines and the rules. There isn't a single person in the UK should be able to have any excuse into not fully understanding them.

You travel to work if you can't work from home. You remain socially apart by 2 metres with the new exceptions. You clean your hands with regularity. You self isolate and get tested if you believe you either have symptoms or have come into contact with anyone who has symptoms. You can exercise as much as you like.

Apart from the obvious ridiculous situations where thousands behaved no better than animals on the beaches and the numerous and equally stupid house parties the country has had significant compliance.

And let's get this into perspective. Not only is that a tiny proportion or percentage of the population; we know which groups of people are significantly more vulnerable.

The chances of catching the virus out in the open for an average person is very slim indeed

So, if people aren't following the guidelines then clearly the guidelines are not strong enough. As a result, the government would need to have a plan in place to fix the situation. The government must make sure the public are safe, therefore, if certain members of the public don't abide by the guidelines, they should step in and ensure this doesn't happen.

That's without even mentioning the poor messages the government have given throughout all of this.

If the government govern idiots, then their guidelines and actions must take this into account.

The Government have been slow to shut down gathering of crowds with no social distancing. Which has clearly been the case on most sunny weekends for the past month. They should have just shut down all of the beaches, no ifs, no buts. But they have been weak and just allowed the public to flout the guidlines. This is what happens though when you basically say the public can go where they want now. No restrictions on travel.

There have been some huge mistakes made. Both by the government and by the public.

There is one single thing that pisshes me off the most. The people who criticise the late lockdown are now the same people vociferously calling for easing of said lockdown. You couldn't make it up

Rule the public is not really correct here IMO.

What is forgotten by a lot of politicians is they they are actually there to serve the public as they work in public service and not public rule.

I agree that they have a big influence on people but folk should have the level of cop on and intelligence to think for themselves.

I mean do they require the government to advise them when to go to the toilet, go to work etc?

If people cannot follow simple guidelines then what hope is there of them following more stringent ones?

While the government deserve plenty off flak joe public is not completely blameless either.

Congregating in large groups in parks and also to protest in the current climate is downright foolhardy.

The scariest thing about it for me is that Johnson and his cronies actually believe the response has been amongst the best in the world. It's like they are actually mad. Trump does the same thing. Telling everyone he is the best at whatever he is awful at.

Johnson and co are now in charge of Brexit.

We don't therefore hammer down on everyone because of a minority. We address the minority surely?
