Mine is firmly Scottish, Started in the borders but worked its way north and the big cluster is in Aberdeen. There was a branch went to Ireland and thence to America to fight in the war of independence. An early record of the name was in reference to two witches with the name.
Makes a lot of sense when I consider my siblings.

That's offaly nice - I'll get my coat
I have a mildly embarrassing middle name with viking origins. However, my old man was a man of the sea and it was taken from his favourite ship.
Actually, I have 2 mildly embarrassing middle names now I come to think of it - the other one is William
Knew it etc.

That you, Prince?
my surname is from ulster, my mums side though were Scottish with direct links to the house of Stewart.
Sadly for me anyway we lost most of our land, property and titles not long after my grandfather died. By the time my gran won her various legal battles the estate was not worth much.
I'm actually thinking my mothers side goes beyond Luss and also back to France as their family shield has French on it
I wonder if I am related to anyone famous
Surname itself is English heritage but I think it's a long way back in history though.

our motto is interesting
always ready to serve my country
have also seen and heard slight variants but similar theme
Surname stems from Forfarshire and Fifeshire. I think specifically there was a cluster of our family name in Arbroath, or at least a lot are buried there!
I've a very Irish Catholic surname but my dear departed mother said "no chance".
Don't know any farther than that, never looked into it.
